Title: Film Showing in New York City: Aisling Gheal (Bright Vision)
Body:

From http://irishartscenter.org/film/aisling_gheal.html

Aisling Gheal (Bright Vision)
Tuesday, June 10 | 7 pm

Aisling Gheal (Bright Vision) follows the lives of the women sean-nós singers in the Muskerry Gaeltacht of West Cork in a journey to the heart of the tradition. Amongst the group of women is 10-year-old Shahira Apraku who attends the local Gaelscoil and embodies an entirely new generation of Irish speakers. Shahira’s journey, the struggles of the women, the songs of the Sean-nós and the flow of the Sullane river provide parallel intersecting narrative vehicles for this documentary, yielding insights into this part of our culture and challenging some of our key contemporary notions of “Irishness” in the process.

For ages 13 and up

After the film, join in an Irish traditional song circle.

Title: Upcoming Webinar: Tips for Starting, Sustaining, and Growing German Programs
Body:

From http://www.justaddgerman.org/webinars

The Goethe-Institut has commissioned this webinar series to support the growth of German language departments across the US.

The webinars in the “Boost Your German Program” series present general advocacy strategies and introduce Goethe-Institut promotional materials; they also focus on specific components of advocacy work, such as creating elevator pitches or devising strategies to reach specific target audiences.

The five webinars in the Guest Speaker series each feature a different presenter and a different advocacy-related topic: participate in just one or all five!

The fourth webinar is this coming Saturday, June 7th: Helping Administrators Listen: Tips for Starting, Sustaining and Growing German Programs.

Description: The presentation will help you understand the administrator's perspective and challenges in establishing or retaining a school's German program. The presenter will share the best approaches and arguments that are tailored specifically towards school administrators and that most effectively convey the value of offering German alongside other languages. Followed by Q&A.

For full details, to watch the three webinars that have already taken place, and to register for this fourth one, go to http://www.justaddgerman.org/webinars

Title: Virtual Rome
Body:

From http://www.reading.ac.uk/classics/research/Virtual-Rome.aspx

Dr Matthew Nicholls of the Department of Classics has developed an ambitious digital model of the entire ancient city of Rome.

Drawing on his research and teaching interests in the history and architecture of the ancient city, and digital modeling expertise, the model shows the city as it appeared c. AD 315. It contains thousands of buildings, including reconstructions of all the major monuments (such as the Colosseum, bath houses, temple, Palatine hill, Forum, markets, and imperial fora) and the many square miles of ordinary housing, tombs, and commercial buildings. The model aims to give a view of the entire city, with all the buildings in their proper contexts.

Title: Blog Post: Keeping it Together at the End of the Year in the Latin Classroom
Body:

From http://caneweb.org

Latin teacher Emily Lewis writes,

Around this time of year, I start hearing a lot of “Ugh, the kids are just so DONE! They are lazy and don’t want to learn.”

While this is not always true, often we teachers keep getting told to “do something meaningful” with the students and “keep them engaged” as the year wraps up. So how does one accomplish this with students who are tired and sick of being tested?

Read on to see some ideas for projects, review work, and games: http://caneweb.org/new/?p=1388

Title: Cuba Educational Exchange - Summer 2015
Body:

From http://www.ictfl.org/content/2014/05/join-ictfls-cuba-educational-exchange-summer-2015

Cuba has recently opened its doors to educational cultural exchanges and the Illinois Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages is excited to offer you the opportunity to learn about Cuba firsthand. The tour includes several cultural visits and exchanges with Cuban artists, musicians, educators and students, scientists, speleologists, medical professionals and government leaders. While of special interest to our Spanish teachers, this tour is also of general interest due to the closed nature of the destination.
