Language Skills: Traditions, Transitions and Ways Forward
Edited by Halina Chodkiewicz and Magdalena TrepczyƄska
Published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing

This volume brings an international perspective to language skills – an area of importance to both theorists and practitioners in all contexts of language teaching and learning. The twenty-seven chapters included here are arranged into six sections devoted to fundamental background issues, spoken interaction, perception of speech sounds and production skills, reading contexts and purposes, writing challenges for advanced learners, and technology and language skills. Explored themes range from the conceptualization of language as skill and the development of L2 skills in communicative and intercultural approaches, through challenges in teaching specific skills and their components, to the consideration of the possibilities and limitations of the use of modern technology in assisting students in skill acquisition. The volume’s contributors point to the multiaspectuality of the process of developing language skills with reference to different age groups, diverse educational and social contexts, as well as instructional activities focusing on isolated and integrated skills. The book also includes original empirical studies concerning learning, teaching, and testing numerous aspects of language skills in L2 attainment. The book will be of interest to researchers, classroom teachers, and specialists in language education, philology and applied linguistics, as well as to graduate students involved in the study of language skills acquisition and instruction.

Flexible Multilingual Education: Putting Children's Needs First
By Jean-Jacques Weber
Published by Multilingual Matters

This book examines the benefits of multilingual education that puts children’s needs and interests above the individual languages involved. It advocates flexible multilingual education, which builds upon children’s actual home resources and provides access to both the local and global languages that students need for their educational and professional success. It argues that, as more and more children grow up multilingually in our globalized world, there is a need for more nuanced multilingual solutions in language-in-education policies. The case studies reveal that flexible multilingual education – rather than mother tongue education – is the most promising way of moving towards the elusive goal of educational equity in today’s world of globalization, migration and superdiversity.

Advances in the Study of Bilingualism
By Enlli Môn Thomas and Ineke Mennen
Published by Multilingual Matters

This book provides a contemporary approach to the study of bilingualism. Drawing on contributions from leading experts in the field, this book brings together - in a single volume - a selection of the exciting work conducted as part of the program of the ESRC Centre for Research on Bilingualism in Theory and Practice at Bangor University, Wales. Each chapter has as its main focus an exploration of the relationship between the two languages of a bilingual. Section by section, the authors draw on current findings and methodologies to explore the ways in which their research can address this question from a number of different perspectives.

Title: Call for Volumes: Advances in Digital Language Learning and Teaching
Body:

The ADVANCES IN DIGITAL LANGUAGE LEARNING AND TEACHING book series is published by Bloomsbury with Dr Michael Thomas, Dr Mark Peterson and Professor Mark Warschauer as series editors. It has already published books on learner autonomy and CALL, sociocultural approaches to online language learning and teaching, and interactive whiteboards and language education. New proposals are sought from academics working in CALL for sole-author or edited collections. More information can be found below and via the publisher’s series website:
http://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/series/advances-in-digital-language-learning-and-teaching

Today's language educators need support to understand how their learners are changing and the ways technology can be used to aid their teaching and learning strategies. The movement toward different modes of language learning, from presence-based to autonomous as well as blended and fully online modes, requires different skill sets such as e-moderation and new ways of designing and developing language learning tasks in the digital age.

Theoretical studies that include practical case studies and high quality empirical studies incorporating critical perspectives are necessary to move the field further. This new series is committed to providing such an outlet for high quality work on digital language learning and teaching.

Volumes in the series focus on a number of areas including but not limited to:

task-based learning and teaching approaches utilizing technology
 language learner creativity
 e-moderation and teaching languages online
 blended language learning
designing courses for online and distance language learning
 mobile assisted language learning
autonomous language learning, both in and outside of formal educational contexts
the use of web 2.0/social media technologies
immersive and virtual language learning environments
 digital game-based language learning
language educator professional development with digital technologies
 teaching language skills with technologies

Enquiries about submitting a proposal for the book series can be made by contacting the series editors: Dr Michael Thomas (MThomas4@uclan.ac.uk), Dr Mark Peterson (tufsmp@yahoo.com) and Professor Mark Warschauer (markw@uci.edu).
