Body: From the Ohio Foreign Language Association listserv: In partnership with Miami University Confucius Institute, Ohio Association of Teachers of Chinese (OATC) will be hosting 2012 Ohio K-12 Chinese Language and Culture Teaching Workshop on September 22, 2012, Saturday in Columbus Ohio. Keynote Speech: Keep it Simple & Make it Fun (Speaker: Jian Gao, Belmont High School, Belmont, MA) Hands-on Culture Sessions: Chinese Knots (Xiaobin Liu, Dayton, OH) Through Chinese folk dance/Kongfu to learn the Language and Culture (Irina Sun, Ohio Wesleyan University) Teaching Chinese painting step to step to American students (Maan Broadstock, Centerville High School) This workshop is free to 2012-2013 OATC Members. Title: Online Course on Japan for High School Students: Reischauer Scholars Program
Body: From http://spice.stanford.edu/docs/reischauer_scholars_program The Reischauer Scholars Program (RSP) is an online course for high school students sponsored by the Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education and the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI). Named in honor of former Ambassador to Japan Edwin O. Reischauer, the RSP annually selects 25–30 exceptional high school students from throughout the United States to engage in an intensive study of Japan. Selected students participate in the online course on Japan from February to June of each year. The 2013 Reischauer Scholars Program is currently accepting applications from all current high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors (Classes of 2013, 2014, and 2015) in the United States. Title: Iwami Kagura Five-City U.S. Tour
Body: Hailing from Masuda City, Shimane prefecture - the land of gods in Japanese mythology - Iwami Kagura will entertain American audiences with two of the most popular titles "Ebisu" and "Orochi" in this five-city tour. Kagura (literally "god-entertainment") is an art form with deep ties to the polytheistic Shinto religion indigenous to Japan, and Iwami Kagura is famous for its characteristic melodic rhythm and splendid costumes. The Iwami Kagura tour is co-presented by the Japan Foundation and the Consulate-General of Japan in Atlanta, Nashville, and Miami. Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, the president of the Pontifical Council for Culture, said the academy will be staffed by "eminent academics of various nationalities, whose aim it will be to promote the use and knowledge of the Latin language in both ecclesiastical and civil contexts, including schools."
