Title: German Book Club in New York City
Body: From http://www.goethe.de The German Book Club, organized by the Goethe-Institut New York and the Austrian Cultural Forum, reads contemporary works of German literature. If you’d like to join a discussion with others who are interested in German literature, then this is the place for you. The books they read are, as a rule, available only in German. A good reading knowledge of German is, therefore, necessary. For the discussion, however, you needn’t be fluent in German or a native speaker. Learn more about the German Book Club at http://www.goethe.de/ins/us/ney/wis/gbc/enindex.htm

Title: Article: Latin serves as 'Universal Translator' for Horticulturists, Biologists and Others
Body: From http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_15445063?nclick_check=1 Latin serves as 'universal translator' for horticulturists, biologists and others By Tony Tomeo July 5, 2010 Horticulturists, biologists and many other professionals who may interact with colleagues who speak other languages or even slightly different regional dialects use Latin to identify, among other things, biological organisms. Latin names may be cumbersome to pronounce and daunting to spell, but are universal to those of us who use them. This is important because the common names are so regionally variable. Title: Summer Program Keeps Latino Kids Learning
Body: From http://www.ukiahdailyjournal.com/ci_15464771 Summer program keeps Latino kids learning By JUSTINE FREDERIKSEN July 8, 2010 Teachers from Mexico share their culture, crafts during Plan Vacacional At Nokomis Elementary School Wednesday, more than 100 kids were happily spending a sunny summer afternoon inside a classroom. Of course, much of the classroom time for the program's 120 students is spent on arts and crafts, as the children are taught skills such as knitting scarves and making piñatas, but coordinator Carmen Matus said the fun activities carry cultural significance. "The objective is to reinforce their culture, language and identity as Latinos," Matus said, explaining that when the Plan Vacacional students learn about Mexican history, artists and tradition, they can understand more about their parents and share a deeper bond. She said the five-week program is funded nearly entirely by the U.S. Dept. of Education's Migrant Education Program, but businesses such as Wells Fargo also donated money.
