Title: New Report on Online Education in Developing Countries
Body: From http://topics.developmentgateway.org/special/onlineeducation Special Report Online Education: What Can It Deliver? Seven of the world's largest distance education universities—where students and faculty alike all use some form of computer-assisted learning—are located in developing countries. For these communities, educational resources available via the Internet can offer cutting-edge applications of cyberspace. Yet, roadblocks—from inadequate national communications infrastructures to teachers reluctant to adapt to e-learning—exist for the full success of online education for higher education. Meanwhile, the use of online delivery in corporate training is predicted to overtake higher education usage in developing countries, becoming an estimated $150 billion industry by 2025. This Special Report looks at lessons learned, innovations that work, and the future of ICT in education for developing countries. It coincides with related major international events, notably Digital Learning Asia 2006, Bangkok, Thailand, on April 25-28, and the 1st International Conference on ICT for Development, Education & Training, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on May 24-26. Read the report online or download a PDF at http://topics.developmentgateway.org/special/onlineeducation .

Title: Call for Writers: Language Teacher Research Series
Body: From http://www.tesol.org/s_tesol/sec_document.asp?CID=6&DID=5904 Language Teacher Research in Australia and New Zealand Language Teacher Research in the Middle East Deadline for contributions: July 31, 2006 Description of Series The Language Teacher Research series is a five-volume series consisting of Language Teacher Research in Asia, Language Teacher Research in Australia and New Zealand, Language Teacher Research in the Americas, Language Teacher Research in Europe, and Language Teacher Research in the Middle East. Teacher as researcher is a relatively new stance toward educational research in that it highlights the role classroom teachers play as knowledge-generators rather than receivers of knowledge. This series attempts to celebrate what is being achieved and to encourage more involvement of language teachers from all types of programs or institutions. The ultimate aim of this series is to encourage an inquiry stance toward language teaching, in which teachers play a crucial role in taking responsibility for their own professional development, while also contributing their particular perspective to the research literature on TESOL. Deadlines Full chapters for volumes on the Americas, Asia, and Europe, were submitted by September 2005. Manuscripts for the volumes on Australia/New Zealand and the Middle East are due July 31, 2006 (this is an extended deadline). Potential contributors are encouraged to contact appropriate volume editors as early as possible with an abstract if they plan to submit a chapter. For more information, visit http://www.tesol.org/s_tesol/sec_document.asp?CID=6&DID=5904 .
