Title: Summer Planning Ideas
Body: A recent request on the FLTEACH listserv for ways to make the most of free time during the summer holidays by planning for the year received the following suggestions: ---- You could review your lesson plans from last year and reflect on which activities worked/didn't work. Put what worked in a three ring binder in the order you will use them. I went through my first/second year text and rewrote the homework assignments to better reflect what I want the students to focus on. I wrote some little homework quizzes to go with each lesson. I sorted through my Word Perfect documents and made folders for all my classes, with subfolders within each for specific topics (text activities, verbs, vocab, culture, etc). Now they are a little better organized. Our principal provided us with class lists before we left. I have made seating charts and started to get "acquainted" with their names. I'm making a list of things I need to do to prepare for the first day/open house. I still need to record my cassettes onto CDs because I _think_ my tape player at school is having a breakdown. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Do you have videos that you like to use in your classes? Do you have activities for all of them? Freeman, M.A. Summer planning. Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv. FLTEACH@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU (15 July 2005). ---- 1. Visit all the teaching and Spanish teaching websites you can find. 2. Watch some Spanish movies and make worksheets to teach in class. 3. Visit the archives for ideas. 4. Find Spanish music to teach. 5. If you don't already have some, put together some easy games. 6. Read books by Krashen, Wong, etc. to inspire you, encourage you. 7. Have lunch with other teachers who might feel the same and want to share. Sandoval, A. Summer planning. Title: Surfing in Biarritz
Body: California meets France in Biarritz, a holiday destination for centuries, but more recently a mecca for surfers in Europe. An American movie screenwriter may have been the first to surf there in the 1950s, but by the 1970s the sport had become popular enough to draw enthusiasts from other continents.
