Title: Arabic Teaching Module: Across Borders
Body:

Melanie Magidow and Laila Familiar have created a free Arabic teaching module. Here is the description:

In this module, we investigate transnational social issues in the Arab World through literature and graphic art. These issues include: refugees and refugee camps, fleeing violence, immigration, cultural challenges for immigrants, studying abroad, and making choices about where and how to live one’s life. In this module, learners will:

• Meet an artist who addresses social issues through comix
• Read a short story that contains big ideas
• Listen to a sung poem expressing solidarity with displaced people
• Learn about the perspectives of young people from refugee families

The module is available at http://khallina.org/across-borders/

Title: New York Exhibition: NeoRealismo: The New Image in Italy, 1932-1960
Body:

From https://greyartgallery.nyu.edu/exhibition/neorealismo-new-image-italy-1932-1960/

NeoRealismo: The New Image in Italy, 1932–1960 poignantly portrays life in Italy through the lens of photography before, during, and after World War II. While neorealism is associated primarily with cinematic and literary depictions of dire postwar conditions, this is the first major museum exhibition to highlight key photographers active at the time. Featuring approximately 175 photographs by over 60 Italian artists, NeoRealismo pairs them with the original publications in which they circulated—illustrated magazines, photobooks, and exhibition catalogues. On view at NYU’s Grey Art Gallery from September 6 through December 8, 2018, the show also includes film excerpts by such notable directors as Vittorio De Sica, Roberto Rossellini, and Luchino Visconti, alongside related movie posters.

Title: Russian Literature Podcast: Lampacast
Body:

From the SEELANGS listserv:

There is a new podcast about literature. It is entirely in Russian. The host is a Russian Literature teacher from Saint Petersburg, who earned his PhD under the supervision of Sergei Fomichev at the Institute of Russian Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences ("Pushkin House" or "Пушкинский дом").

The podcast is a great tool for those teaching or learning Russian. It features a well thought-through selection of short stories and is beautifully produced: sound quality, acting, music are all top-notch. Each episode of the podcast starts with the host's introduction and ends with discussion questions. The stories are read by professional actors.

It is a non-commercial self-funded project, created purely out of love for the art of literature.
