Title: Input Activities
Body:

From http://workingtowardproficiency.blogspot.com/

Most language teachers strive to provide lots of comprehensible input before asking students to produce new language. However, it can be hard to come up with ideas for allowing students to respond to input and express themselves without pushing them beyond what they are able to produce at the time. Here are quite a few different input activities that you can add to your toolbox: http://workingtowardproficiency.blogspot.com/2018/01/input-activities.html

Title: From Digital Storytelling to Reflective Portfolios: Constructionism, Maker Spaces and the Liberal Arts
Body:

From http://www.languagetechnologybootcamp.org/

Felix Kronenberg writes, "The power and agency that lie in the act of creating something are especially appealing in the context of language learning because language learners often have difficulty expressing themselves to the extent they are used to in their L1. There are also numerous advantages to creating a 'finished product,' ranging from publicity and advocacy advantages to externalizing knowledge and learning." Read about his application of constructionism in a language pedagogy program in this short but intriguing blog post: http://www.languagetechnologybootcamp.org/2018/01/31/from-digital-storytelling-to-reflective-portfolios-constructionism-maker-spaces-and-the-liberal-arts/

Title: "Song of the Month" and Lots of Ideas for Using Songs
Body:

From https://lamaestralocablog.wordpress.com

Spanish teacher Annabelle Allen and her middle school students are very enthusiastic about her "song of the month" each month. As she writes, "Every teacher incorporates music into their classroom differently. What I do is a matter of preference based on what I know about me, my classroom, my student population, the levels I teach, and the amount of time I get with them each week." Regardless of how you use music in your classroom, you are likely to find some fresh ideas in her blog post: https://lamaestralocablog.wordpress.com/2018/01/29/super-songs-how-my-song-of-the-month-inspires-and-motivates-my-students/

Title: Shifting Your Mindset to Reach 90% in the Target Language
Body:

From http://elmundodepepita.blogspot.com/

Here is an excellent blog post about adaptations that a teacher may need to make in order to spend at least 90% of classroom instruction time in the target language. First, a reminder: "Your goal is not 90% in the target language; your goal is to provide enough good input so your students can reach a higher proficiency level - 90% is the vehicle to make that happen." With that in mind, teachers can be very intentional in their use of English - even to the point of eliminating some of their favorite activities and units from the past when these exceed students' language proficiency.

Title: New Foreign Language Literacies Website
Body:

From http://carla.umn.edu/literacies/index.html

The Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition's Foreign Language Literacies project gives teachers tools, resources, and experiences that help them effectively apply literacies pedagogy and engage students with authentic texts in secondary and post-secondary classrooms. The project includes a research component that looks at teacher understandings and applications of literacies pedagogy. Results from this research inform creation of professional development resources teachers can use in their own classrooms.

The new Foreign Language Literacies website includes a bibliography with research and scholarly articles, chapters, and books organized around four main subject areas: theoretical and pedagogical perspectives; curricular and pedagogical applications of literacies-based approaches; student learning outcomes, perceptions, and experiences in literacies-oriented classrooms; and teacher understandings and applications of literacies pedagogy. The bibliography is available at http://carla.umn.edu/literacies/bibliography.html

Here is a video recording of a recent presentation given by Kate Paesani and Mandy Menke on their study that documents the process of implementing a tool for analyzing literacies-based teaching materials: http://carla.umn.edu/presentations/recordings.html#paesani_menke
