Al-Bustan is pleased to partner with Germantown Friends School to offer a three-week intensive Arabic program for teenagers. The program includes speaking, reading, writing, and listening in Arabic, integrated with arts instruction in visual art/calligraphy, singing, and drumming. The curriculum, utilizing a national standards-based Arabic curriculum for high school students, will integrate arts instruction with language learning and enable students to have a variety of experiences to deepen their engagement in the language and culture.

Three-week program open to current 6th through 12th graders:

Title: Algeria Recognizes Amazigh as Official Language

Although Amazigh (also known as Berber) was already recognized in Algeria as a national language, it las lacked the status of Arabic, which as an official language could be used on administrative documents. However, on January 5 the Algerian government announced a set of reforms, aimed at increasing democracy in Algeria, that include making Amazigh (called Tamazight in the language itself) an official language as well.

Indiana University’s Summer Language Workshop is proud to host the 2016 Baltic Studies Summer Institute (BALSSI), offering intensive beginning Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian language courses. Courses will be held from June 6-July 29, 2016 on the Bloomington campus.

Students complete the equivalent of one year of academic instruction in the program and earn 6-8 credits, which can be transferred to other institutions.

All students pay in-state tuition and competitive Title VIII and FLAS funding is available to qualified students.

The application deadline for priority consideration for funding is February 1, 2016. Applications received after the deadline will be accepted on a rolling basis as funding is available.
