Title: Two Helpful Websites for Ohio (and All) Language Teachers
Body:

From the OFLA listserv:

There are two ODE pages for World Languages that you may find very helpful.  We wanted to come up with an easy way for teachers to quickly find what they’re looking for on the ODE website, given the extensive world language resources that we’ve added this past year:

1.     HOW TO…? resources:  http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Ohio-s-New-Learning-Standards/Foreign-Language/World-Languages-Model-Curriculum/World-Languages-Model-Curriculum-Framework/Instructional-Strategies/How-to-Resources
This Model Curriculum page has dozens of great links such as: Using authentic resources with a textbook; Saving internet videos;  Finding IPAs, video series, music, practice websites, podcasts, etc.; and many more!

2.     How Do I…? for World Languages:  http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Ohio-s-New-Learning-Standards/Foreign-Language/World-Languages-How-do-I
This page gives fast links for finding resources related to Standards, Model Curriculum, SLOs, IPAs, Rubrics, Proficiency, Can-Dos, Content, Instruction, and Connections.

We hope these pages will be beneficial to you.  Have a great rest of the week. J

Teaching Languages Off the Beaten Track
Edited by Michal B. Paradowski
Published by Peter Lang International Academic Publishers

The 21st-century global linguistic landscape has seen many changes for language learners. New assessments have been made in a host of areas, especially regarding learners' needs, motives, the target of instruction, and methodologies. The new realities, locales and purposes of communication all necessitate a shift in attitude and a new set of competencies is required of the teacher. This volume comprises a multi-faceted and thoughtful response to these changes in both modern reality and teaching philosophy. It is a study of a few of the other ways to tackle situations outside of norms and routines. The authors of this volume possess many years of teaching experience, and have stepped off the roads most travelled to explore new avenues and find novel solutions in foreign language teaching. This volume familiarizes readers with contemporary theoretical debate and new research, and demonstrates how to easily translate these into practical, everyday classroom applications.

Title: Call for Papers: Under-resourced Languages, Collaborative Approaches and Linked Open Data
Body:

Final Call for Papers: LRE Journal Special Issue: "Under-resourced Languages, Collaborative Approaches and Linked Open Data: Resources, Methods and Applications"
*NEW SUBMISSION DATE*: December 15, 2014

Under-resourced languages are generally described as languages that suffer from a chronic lack of available resources, from human, financial, and time resources to linguistic ones (language data and language technology), and often also experience the fragmentation of efforts in resource development. This situation is exacerbated by the realization that as technology progresses and the demand for localized languages services over digital devices increases, the divide between adequately- and under-resourced languages keeps widening. Given that most of the world's almost 7000 languages are not adequately resourced, much work needs to be done in order to support their existence in the digital age.

This special issue arises from the imperative to maintain cultural and language diversity and from the basic right of all communities, languages, and cultures to be "first class citizens" in an age driven by information, knowledge and understanding. In this spirit, this special issue focuses on three strategic approaches to augment the development of resources for under-resourced languages to achieve a level potentially comparable to well-resourced, technologically advanced languages, viz. a) using the crowd and collaborative platforms; b) using technologies of interoperability with well-developed languages; and c) using Semantic Web technologies and, more specifically, Linked Data.
