See http://www.carla.umn.edu/speechacts/bibliography Other resources on pragmatics and speech acts include: Descriptions of Speech Acts A collection of descriptions of speech acts as revealed through empirical research designed to help language teachers and advanced learners to be more aware of the sociocultural use of the language they are teaching or learning. http://www.carla.umn.edu/speechacts/descriptions.html Strategies for Learning Speech Acts in Japanese This interactive website is targeted at intermediate to advanced learners of Japanese. After a series of introductory exercises, learners progress through five sets of exercises to learn about and practice making apologies, compliments, refusals, requests, and thanks in Japanese. http://www.carla.umn.edu/speechacts/japanese/introtospeechacts/index.htm Dancing with Words Designed for learning Spanish speech acts, this self-access website contains an introductory unit, resource unit, and eight learning modules addressing different speech acts. Title: Book: Responses to Language Endangerment
Body: From http://benjamins.com/#catalog/books/slcs.142/main Responses to Language Endangerment In honor of Mickey Noonan New directions in language documentation and language revitalization Edited by Elena Mihas, Bernard Perley, Gabriel Rei-Doval and Kathleen Wheatley Published by John Benjamins Publishing Company This volume further complicates and advances the contemporary perspective on language endangerment by examining the outcomes of the most commonly cited responses to language endangerment, i.e. language documentation, language revitalization, and training. The present collection takes stock of many complex and pressing issues, such as the assessment of the degree of language endangerment, the contribution of linguistic scholarship to language revitalization programs, the creation of successful language reclamation programs, the emergence of languages that arise as a result of revitalization efforts after interrupted transmission, the ethics of fieldwork, and the training of field linguists and language educators. The volume’s case studies provide detailed personal accounts of fieldworkers and language activists who are grappling with issues of language documentation and revitalization in the concrete physical and socio-cultural settings of native speaker communities in different regions of the world. Title: Book: Foreign Language Learning Outside School
Body: From http://www.peterlang.com/index.cfm?event=cmp.ccc.seitenstruktur.detailseiten&seitentyp=produkt&pk=65438&concordeid=262255 Foreign Language Learning Outside School Edited by Jutta Rymarczyk Published by Peter Lang International Academic Publishers Learning opportunities outside school are met with increasing interest. Not only the visual character of leisure time venues supports foreign language learning, but also their aesthetic quality is enjoyed by students and teachers. Other learning venues outside school like work places and places visited during stays abroad are appreciated for their interactional support. However, as the ten papers of this volume show, the opportunity to experience free choice learning and hence the chance for life-long learning has to be well balanced with the scaffolding and the sheltered space that language learners need. Only if this dove-tailing works out well, resources can be better used and students can benefit in terms of motivation, cultural awareness, and increased foreign language competence.
