Where and by whom are language education policy decisions made, explicitly and/or implicitly? How do educational systems respond to challenges of multilingual societies? Critical views will be presented in order to understand the current developments and challenges of language education from both micro and macro perspectives. Body: SEELANGS AATSEEL-Wisconsin Conference 16-17 October 2009 University of Wisconsin-Madison Call for papers for the 2009 AATSEEL-WI Conference Abstracts for 20 minute papers on any aspect of Slavic literatures and cultures (including film, music, the visual arts, and language pedagogy) are invited for the annual conference of the Wisconsin chapter of AATSEEL (The American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages). Comparative topics and interdisciplinary approaches are welcome. The conference will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on Friday and Saturday, 16-17 October 2009. Recent conference programs and guidelines for preparing abstracts are posted on the AATSEEL-WI website at http://slavic.lss.wisc.edu/new_web/?q=node/7 To present a paper at the AATSEEL-WI conference, please submit a proposal by 31 August 2009. Title: NCELA Call for Papers: Preparation and Professional Development (PD) of Teachers of ELLs in K-12
Body: The winter 2009 issue of AccELLerate! will focus on the preparation and professional development (PD) of teachers of English Language Learners in K-12. NCELA is soliciting contributions from ESL and content area teachers, administrators, researchers, and others that work with this population. NCELA particularly welcomes submissions from recipients of OELA’s National Professional Development grants. Articles should not exceed 1000 words, should be grounded in the research base and be clearly and cogently written. Topics may include the knowledge and skills which enable teachers to meet the needs of ELL students, the implementation of effective PD at the school, district or state level, promising practices for measuring the outcomes of professional development, and collaborative models of professional development. Submissions should be received by email by October 14, 2009. Please provide the name, title, and affiliation of all authors, as well as a contact telephone number and email address. Submissions or questions should be directed to Natalia Romanova, editor of AccELLerate! at romanova@gwu.edu.
