He added that so far, he believes the state's new standards to help students become fluent in English are succeeding. Title: Book: Representational Deficits in SLA
Body: From http://www.benjamins.com/cgi-bin/t_bookview.cgi?bookid=LALD%2047 Representational Deficits in SLA: Studies in honor of Roger Hawkins Edited by Neal Snape, Yan-kit Ingrid Leung and Michael Sharwood Smith Publisher: John Benjamins Publishing Company Summary: The papers in this volume feature a range of studies, all undertaken within a generative linguistic framework, which investigate various properties of L2 grammar bearing on the question of whether or not there are representational deficits in the post-critical-period L2 learners’ grammar. The significance of such deficits, if their existence can be confirmed, is that they provide support for the claim, at least for the type of L2 learner under investigation, that there are insurmountable obstacles to ultimate attainment. Title: New Book: Japanese Language Teaching
Body: From http://www.continuumbooks.com/Books/detail.aspx?ReturnURL=/Search/default.aspx&CountryID=2&ImprintID=2&BookID=129967 Japanese Language Teaching: A Communicative Approach By Alessandro G Benati Publisher: Continuum Description: Japanese Language Teaching examines the practical aspects of the acquisition of Japanese as a second language, underpinned by current theory and research. Each chapter examines the theory and practice of language teaching, and progresses to a consideration of the practical design of tasks for teaching. The final section applies theory and practice to an empirical case study, drawn from a classroom with Japanese as a second language. With its emphasis on practice underpinned by contemporary theory, this book will be of interest to postgraduates studying second language acquisition and applied linguistics.
