Title: Open Resources for Indigenous Languages
Body:
From https://blog.coerll.utexas.edu
Our sister LRC, the Center for Open Educational Resources and Language Learning, has assembled an annotated collection of links to indigenous language resources available under a Creative Commons license. They write, "Open Creative Commons licenses, an essential aspect of all OER, make it easier for people to access and share important information in their community and with the world, while ensuring authors are always credited for their work. This will not be a solution that suits everyone, but there are many indigenous language teachers and organizations who have chosen to make their resources available under a Creative Commons license."
Check out the list, including additional resources in the comments, at https://blog.coerll.utexas.edu/open-resources-for-indigenous-languages/

Title: Arabic Activity: What Do You Like About School
Body:
Here's an idea from the Arabic K-12 Teachers Network Bulletin (https://mailchi.mp/qfi/arabic-k-12-bulletin-may-1-993389?e=feb2c9cab6):
What do you like best about school? For a great K-12 school-related listening activity, have your students reflect on what they like best about school, and then guess what young people in the Arab world like best about school. Then watch this interview with young boys in a school setting at https://youtu.be/RHDjrj4qln4 and have your students pick out the words they recognize. Compare answers with their own to extend the learning!

Title: Love Songs for a Spanish Health Unit
Body:
Sara-Elizabeth Cottrell writes, "Love is amazing, but man, it can hurt. At least, that’s what pop music says!
"Indeed, the metaphors involving love and sickness, pain, and medicine abound in pop music. That means a health unit rivals any other theme in the contest for most applicable music options!"
Read on for ten songs that Cottrell recommends for health units - you'll definitely notice a thematic pattern! https://musicuentos.com/2019/03/spanish-songs-health-unit-duele/

Title: Overly Cluttered Classrooms and English Learners
Body:
Judie Haynes writes, "Research shows that an overly cluttered classroom can be more of a distraction than an aid to learning. Children, particularly those in the early grades and those with special learning needs (this includes English learners; ELs), are easily distracted by a cluttered classroom. My friend and early child education expert Karen Nemeth wrote a guest blog for TESOL about this topic in April 2017. I’d like to add some more details about the research. Although all of this research was completed using the general school population, it certainly applies to ELs."
Read the full blog post, which includes a discussion of the key environmental influences on student learning and a recommendation for 20-50% of empty wall space, at http://blog.tesol.org/overly-cluttered-classrooms-and-el-learning/
