Title: Video about Performing Sichuan Opera
Body:

From https://aeon.co/videos/the-extraordinary-physical-and-mental-demands-of-performing-sichuan-opera

With origins deep in southern China’s folk storytelling and music customs, Sichuan opera is characterized by traditional instrumentation, a distinctive singing style, elaborate, colorful costumes, changing masks that reflect characters’ emotional states, and daring stunts including martial arts, acrobatics and fire-breathing. Part of a video series on work in modern China by the US filmmaker Noah Sheldon, this short documentary profiles the Chongqing-based Sichuan opera singer Zhou Xing Yu as she prepares for her next show, reflecting on her abiding love of performing despite the intensity and pain of many years of training.

Title: Scale Model of Ancient Rome
Body:

From http://www.openculture.com/2018/03/behold-a-huge-scale-model-of-ancient-rome-at-its-architectural-peak.html

At the Museum of Roman Culture resides a 1:250 recreation of imperial Rome, known as the Plastico di Roma Imperiale, which transports viewers not just through space but time as well. "To commemorate the birth of Augustus (63 BC) two thousand years earlier, Mussolini commissioned a model of Rome as it appeared at the time of Constantine (AD 306-337), when the city had reached its greatest size," says Encyclopedia Romana. Constructed by Italo Gismondi between 1933 and 1937, then extended and restored in the 1990s, it takes as its basis Rodolfo Lanciani's 1901 atlas the Forma Urbis Romae.

Title: In Support of Neo-Latin
Body:

From https://eidolon.pub

Tom Hendrickson writes, "My Latin 1 syllabi used to include some version of the following:

Latin was the language of Caesar and Vergil, but it was also the language of literature, theology, government, science, and scholarship for most of European history.

It never struck me as strange that while students would certainly be reading Caesar and Vergil (at least if they continued on in Latin), they would almost surely never encounter the material from “most of European history.” Yet some of the most significant writings in European history, especially during the Renaissance and Early Modern era, are in Latin. Petrarch wrote in Latin, as did Erasmus, Thomas More, Martin Luther, Copernicus, Spinoza, and Milton."

Title: Teaching Spanish When You Don't Speak It Perfectly
Body:

From http://spanishmama.com/

At CASLS we don't believe in "fluency" as a binary value of language skill, or in "perfect" speaking. This recent blog post on the Spanish Mama blog is a great affirmation for teachers who sometimes lose confidence in their speaking ability, whether it's in front of heritage speakers, colleagues, or in a 90% target language classroom.
