Title: Literature in Mexico’s Indigenous Languages
Body:

From http://www.ozy.com/fast-forward/why-these-mexican-writers-are-ditching-spanish-for-ancient-languages/75743

In this recent article, Theo Ellin Ballew explores the popularity and deep historical roots of literature in indigenous languages of Mexico. An excerpt: “Octavio Paz, Juan Rulfo, Rosario Castellanos, Carlos Fuentes … Mexico’s Spanish-language literature is one of the richest in Latin America. But for hundreds of years, the literature written in languages that existed before European colonization were all but silenced on the global scene — even though they were well-recognized by many Mexicans. Now, interest in this writing is surging worldwide. And it has its own rich history: In some traditions of pre-Columbian Mexico, when an estimated 130 languages were spoken, books were bound in deerskin, students were obliged to memorize poems and songs, and a misused or forgotten word was considered a cause of illness or death.”

Title: Taiwanese Museum Just Digitized Its Massive Collection of Chinese Art
Body:

From http://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/taiwanese-museum-just-digitized-its-massive-collection-chinese-art-180964257/

In 1948, amidst the chaos of China's civil war, Nationalist forces evacuated thousands of priceless artifacts from Beijing to Taiwan. The preemptive decision proved timely: By the following year, Mao Zedong’s Communist Party had seized power. In lieu of this regime change, the evacuated collection never returned to its home country. Instead, the artifacts remained in Taiwan’s National Palace Museum.

Now, the Palace Museum, which houses one of the world’s largest collection of Chinese artifacts and artworks, is opening its (digital) doors to a new audience. BBC’s Kerry Allen reports that 70,000 high-resolution images of items ranging from paintings to antiquities are available in a new digital archive. It’s free to download the images, as well as accompanying background information about artifacts.
