Britten Milliman writes an interesting article about the variety of dialects spoken in Italy, while also challenging the notion or labeling of languages as “dialects.” A nice, thought provoking article that could create a good discussion about language rights and discrimination in your classroom.

Title: English Café 491 - Rutherford B. Hayes
Body:

From https://www.eslpod.com/website/show_podcast.php?issue_id=16316665#

This newest podcast from ESL Podcast is about Rutherford B. Hayes, 19th president of the United States. The podcast itself is free, but if you want the additional materials they are for a charge. The speech in the podcast is fairly slow and difficult words are described or defined. It contains a good amount of U.S. history, particularly about the Civil War and the abolition of slavery. The podcast is long; 32:02 minutes long! However, you could easily pick and choose sections of the podcast to use with your students as a listening exercise, especially as prep for discussions on U.S. history and politics.

Access the podcast at https://www.eslpod.com/website/show_podcast.php?issue_id=16316665#
