Title: Frozen's 'Let It Go' in Arabic
Body:

From http://blogs.transparent.com/arabic/frozens-let-it-go-in-arabic/

Jesa posts in Transparent Language's Arabic Language Blog a video and lyrics, both in Arabic, of the popular song 'Let It Go' from the Disney movie Frozen. You could show it to your students for fun or create an activity with it using the Arabic lyrics. Note that the translation isn't exact but encompasses the general meaning of the English-version of the song. It could be fun to take a closer look at the act of translating, comparing the Arabic version to the English version, and have a discussion about how to translate for meaning and feel versus word for word.

Title: Viewpoint: Would Athenian-style Democracy Work in the UK Today?
Body:

From http://www.bbc.com/news

Historian Paul Cartledge looks back at the political system in Ancient Greece and compares it to the current model in the UK. "Ancient Athens operated a unique system of direct democracy in which all citizens could vote on laws themselves rather than electing representatives to do it for them. Could such a system operate in the modern UK?" This could be a good article to discuss in class, and it can be applied to the US as well.

Body:

From http://www.chaiandconversation.com/2015/persian-wedding-aghd-ceremony-step-step-journey

Here is another installment about Persian Weddings from Leyla Shams. In her last post entitled: Aroosi: Everything You've Ever Wanted to Know About Persian Weddings, which we posted in the InterCom newsletter that came out January 12th, Leyla gave an in-depth description of the events that occur prior to a Persian wedding. In this shorter follow-up post, she explores what actually takes place during the aghd, or wedding ceremony, including some key vocabulary in Persian at the end of the article. The article is in English with Persian words italicized.

Title: Spanish Grammar Lessons: Los artículos (Parte II)
Body:

From http://debocaenbocacentre.com/

Articles, like prepositions, are very small particles in a sentence, but they can be tricky to master for our students. Following from the more basic rules of articles discussed in Part 1, this week's blog post looks at more difficult uses that can be helpful for intermediate to advanced students looking to improve accuracy in their everyday interactions. They include clear rules and examples, but also exceptions.

Title: Experto teme la desaparición del español en el suroeste de Estados Unidos
Body:

From www.fundeu.es

Research by Dr Devin Jenkins, University of Colorado, suggests that Spanish could disappear in the southwest of the US because third generation Spanish-speaking children may not learn or speak the language, even within their families. This seems to be the case in Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico, and could complicate family relations between generations, as well as a loss of cultural attachment. To prevent this, Dr Jenkins believes bilingualism should be promoted and more socially accepted. The good news is that the old correlation between speaking Spanish and having a low socioeconomic background has decreased, so it's not an indicator anymore.
