Title: Authentic texts in French
Body: Les Clés de l'actualité Junior is a great site for authentic material. It is meant for French children from approximately ages 8~13, and so the language is fairly simple. Each day they feature four short reports on a variety of current event topics ranging from world events to sports to nature. There is also a survey question ("petit vote") for young people and a "photo du jour," which is more like a photo of the month. Here is the URL: http://www.lesclesjunior.com/ Way, D. (18 Jun. 2004). Title: Webquests: what are they (really)?
Body: A well-designed WebQuest uses the power of the Internet and a scaffolded learning process to turn research-based theories into dependable learning- centered practices. (from http://www.bestwebquests.com/what_webquests_are.asp) This article goes on to get at the essential elements of WebQuests. For example, is a WebQuest "Real, Rich, and Relevant?" Tom March and Bernie Dodge created WebQuests in 1995 and, since then, WebQuests have taken on a life of their own. On his site, Best WebQuests.com http://www.bestwebquests.com/default.asp Tom separates "the best from the rest." He does this by using an assessment matrix that assesses WebQuests on eight traits. His list of the best includes only 4 WebQuests in the area of foreign languages. Another place to look for WebQuests is: http://webquest.org/ Once at this site, click on the links to Top, Middling, or New Webquests.

Title: Writing idea: cereal boxes
Body: here is someting i saw - and i'm planning to steal it: cereal boxes. everyone gets a cereal box (students bring them from home) and students create their own cereal box. depending on the level - just basic info about myself, my picture, my hobbies, languages i speak/learn, places i visited.... the beginners can have a pretty simple cereal box, the more advanced can make up a story about themselves, or about something else related to the unit. also good as review! some of those i saw were great! Editor's Note: Subsequent emails questionned the author as to why she chose cereal boxes. The author pointed to the Wheaties cereal boxes as examples of sports figures who excel in their domains. Thus, having one's photo and story on a cereal box would be a very positive thing. Daly, K. (24 Jun. 2004). Re: easy projects. Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv.
