Title: Call for Papers: Journal of the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages
Body: From http://linguistlist.org/issues/24/24-1149.html The Journal of the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages (JNCOLCTL) is soliciting articles for publication. The Journal, published annually by NCOLCTL, is dedicated to the issues and concerns related to the teaching and learning of Less Commonly Taught Languages. The Journal primarily seeks to address the interests of language teachers, administrators, and researchers. Articles that describe innovative and successful teaching methods that are relevant to the concerns or problems of the profession, or that report educational research or experimentation in Less Commonly Taught Languages are welcome. Papers presented at NCOLCTL's annual conference will be considered for publication, but additional manuscripts from members of the profession are also welcome. The Journal of the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages shall include papers focusing on broader theoretical and technological issues in all fields of LCTL's along with reports about research and teaching in academia, at both the K-12 and collegiate levels. Also to be included are papers addressing research and teaching in government and industry and issues of a broader social environment, ranging from heritage communities to advancing LCTL’s in federal initiatives and legislation in the USA. Title: New Book Series in English for Specific Purposes
Body: From http://linguistlist.org/issues/24/24-1162.html Brian Paltridge from the University of Sydney and Sue Starfield from the University of New South Wales have been contracted by Routledge as editors for a new book series, Routledge Research in English for Specific Purposes. Books in the series will describe original, cutting-edge research and be aimed at researchers, academics and research students with an interest in the particular area. Areas covered in the series will include, but not be limited to, multimodality and English for specific purposes; English as an international language and English for specific purposes; English in the workplace; corpus studies and English for specific purposes; vocabulary and English for specific purposes; technology and the teaching and learning of English for specific purposes; aviation English and English for specific purposes; intercultural rhetoric and assessment and English for specific purposes. Paper and panel presentations will take place at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego hotel from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. An evening session, featuring a keynote speech and reception, will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites San Diego Bay hotel, a 5-minute walk from the Grand Hyatt. The conference will be held in conjunction with the 2013 Annual Meeting of the Association for Asian Studies. The AATJ Annual Spring Conference will feature more than 100 presentations on various aspects of Japanese language and literature, as well as two special events: a language textbooks workshop sponsored by four Japanese publishers (9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.); and a lunch workshop on developing materials for teaching about the 3/11 disaster sponsored by the Inter University Center of Yokohama and the Japan Foundation (12:40 - 1:30 p.m.). She will offer teachers of French an outstanding workshop on ways to integrate literature in the language classroom. The goal of this training session is to offer fun activities to help motivate students to read French and Francophone literary texts, and to help students work on different skills (written comprehension and production, oral comprehension and expression). The training session will also offer an opportunity for teachers to update their own knowledge of French and Francophone literature and to discover new authors and texts that will enrich their teaching practice. Emphasis will be placed on multimedia resources that can be used in French literature classes. You will learn: Methods for using a literary text in a language class: How to adapt the process of text analysis and tool development to the pedagogical use of literary texts at all learning levels Fun activities to accompany texts ("suggestion box") Practical Application: Run-through of certain activities, especially the guided pedagogical online course "Literature and multimedia in the FLE classroom", to discover and try out websites offering resources relating to literary texts Teachers will leave the session with the following documents: · A PowerPoint presentation of all the ideas introduced during the session · A list of contemporary French and Francophone authors · A list of multimedia resources Noonan, D.
