Title: Call for Submissions: American Association of Teachers of Turkic Languages Bulletin
Body: - Call for Submissions - American Association of Teachers of Turkic Languages (AATT) Bulletin AATT invites scholars of Turkish and Turkic languages and cultures to submit articles and reviews on the general theme of "Acquisition" for the Winter 2013 issue of the AATT Bulletin. Under that theme, the editors are interested in topics ranging from media and technology in the classroom, language instruction materials (including apps and websites), methodologies, study abroad, immersion, and assessment to linguistics, literature, and culture for our upcoming edition. Deadline for submissions: September 1, 2012. Submissions should be in English and not exceed 3500 words. Manuscripts should follow the Chicago Manual of Style. Authors should use endnotes instead of footnotes. There is no need to send a separate bibliography. Double-spaced Word files may be sent as e-mail attachments to the AATT editor, Erdağ Göknar: goknar at duke dot edu The AATT Bulletin aims to foster communication among scholars of Turkish, Azeri, Kazakh, Kirgiz, Tatar, Turkmen, Uyghur, and Uzbek. Body: From http://www.worldcall2013.org The Chair and members of the WorldCALL Steering Committee extend a cordial invitation to attend the 4th WorldCALL Conference, hosted by the University of Ulster at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, Glasgow, 10-13 July 2013. The theme of the next WorldCALL Conference is Sustainability and CALL This topic is far-reaching and includes but is not limited to: • The use of ubiquitous technologies, such as the mobile phone, mp3 players, iPads etc., to provide flexibility and access to language learning opportunities • Development and design of applications with a view to use in the longer term • Learner autonomy and CALL • Motivation, guidance and accountability in language learning without the teacher present • Discussion of CALL that reaches beyond the hype and the latest gadget to encompass longer term priorities and goals • The use of social networking technologies by language teachers and learners to share expertise, knowledge and information both nationally and internationally • The development of innovative teaching/learning materials that are unrestrictive and open to all • Sustaining innovation through collaborations across institutions, both nationally and internationally • Building and sustaining online communities of language learners/teachers • Working collaboratively to adapt and disseminate innovations so that they can be used beyond the original development environment, the early adopter or the lone operator • Developing theoretical frameworks, models, principles and guidelines for the development of CALL innovations with a view to the longer term • Developing 3-year, or 5-year plans to the match the needs and priorities of particular languages, groups and/or regions, with a view to sustainability • The development of network-based materials that have sustainable maintenance and support • The viability of open source as a pathway to sustainability You are invited to submit proposals for 30- or 45-minute presentations, courseware showcase, poster sessions, or symposia that address any of the above or related topics, as well as those involving studies of other aspects that may directly or indirectly influence the impact of the medium on language teaching and learning. Body: From http://www.mctlc.org/News_blog?mode=PostView&bmi=925429 Many Faces of Mexico in Minnesota Class Monday, June 25 - Thursday, June 28, 2012 Hamline University and La Conexión de las Américas are working together to offer a multi-faceted, interactive course, Many Faces of Mexico in Minnesota. The four days of classes focus on historical, economic and social perspectives on why Mexicans emigrate from their country and chose Minnesota. Participants will learn about the challenges they face and the contributions they make. Participants will interact with immigrants, learn to identify and respond to myths and stereotypes, gather resources, and visit a Latino-led social service agency. You will address current issues related to education, business, law enforcement, and immigration policy. The class focuses on building awareness and understanding in order to respond with compassion to recent immigrants. It is taught via role-play, small group, paired activities and community building methodology that can be readily adapted into participant’s lesson plans or community activities. Body: The AATG in collaboration with the College Board’s Advanced Placement Program® is offering financial assistance to participate in a full day workshop for AP® German Language and Culture held in conjunction with the AP Annual Conference in Lake Buena Vista, FL in July 2012. This professional development opportunity is funded through a generous gift from an AATG member. The AP German workshop is a pre-conference workshop to be held on Thursday, July 19 from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Financial assistance in the amount of $555.00 will cover fees for the AP German workshop, as well as registration for the AP Annual Conference July 18-22, 2012.
