Body: Avant Assessment is seeking speakers of Bosnian with experience in teaching and/or assessment to participate in the production of a high level reading proficiency assessment in that language. The ideal candidate for this work will possess some or all of the following abilities and/or experience: 1) Native or near native ability with Bosnian. If Bosnian is not your native language, it would be best if you had spent at least 4 years in Bosnia, preferably attending university. 2) Theoretical and working knowledge of the ILR Scale is desired, but not required. 3) Test item writing experience in a professional assessment (non-classroom) setting is also desired, but not required. 4) Good ability with English – ILR Level 3 or higher This is a part time, telecommute position. You will be collaborating via internet and telephone with linguists and assessment professionals to develop test items from complex passages. You must have ready access to the internet, preferably a high speed connection, and you must be available to work during normal working hours in the USA - approximately 1500 GMT to 0200 GMT. We will provide you with instruction and guidance from top people in the field of language assessment. You will be paid for all the time you spend working on this project, including training sessions, collaborating sessions, and independent work time. The AILDI is a four-week residential summer teacher preparation program in American Indian linguistics, curriculum development, language revitalization, maintenance and documentation with significant outreach and recruitment/retention functions throughout the academic year. Ms. Mazumder, whose daughter is nearly 3, has company. Although a majority of parents seeking caretakers for their children still seek ones who will speak to their children in English, popular parenting blogs and Web sites indicate that a noticeable number of New York City parents are looking for baby sitters and nannies to help their children learn a second language, one they may not speak themselves. Under the aegis of a nonprofit organization called Global Kids, they traveled weekdays from different corners of the city to East 68th Street in the rarefied neighborhood that is home to the council. Global Kids has been around for 21 years, seeking to interest students and teachers in the world around them. The program at the Council on Foreign Relations was designed for highly engaged students, who seem to have absorbed a fundamental lesson in life: Ignorance is a terrible strategy for success and a miserable excuse for failure.
