There is a teaching position available at Selvidge Middle School in the Rockwood School District in St. Louis, MO for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade French and German. The applicant would need dual certification to be full-time, but the school district would consider hiring two part-time teachers -- one for French, one for German.

Mission:
"Knowledge is Power, Knowledge is Pride." This statement is the founding principle behind the Asians in America Project (AIA). Our sole purpose is to provide a central source of information for all things regarding people of Asian Pacific descent living in the United States.
Background:
AIA has been three years in the making. When the Asians in America project was first concieved, it was to be nothing more than an online directory of Asian Pacific American (APA) organizations. But as the idea took shape, it became evident that AIA could and should be much more.
With the lack of a central source for news and information on events and issues regarding Asian Pacific Americans, the need for a national bulletin board for APA related announcements, and the necessity to archive historical information on the APA community, it was decided that AIA will try to fullfill these needs as well as it's original purpose as a directory.
True, there were many online publications for Asian Pacific Americans, and there were also a lot of websites that featured organization directories, calendars or historical facts. But there were just SO MANY. And some of them covered one area but not another. Others weren't updated on a regular basis, many were part of a larger organization that had other priorities, and most dealt with information on Asia as much as they did on Asian America. That's where AIA comes in. It's mission, not as much as to create
even more new information about the community, but to gather what
information does exist and make them accessible from one central location.
As a result, The Asians in America Project is now comprised of four main sections:
- News - featuring daily news updates from traditional newspapers, weekly links to stories in other APA publications, and the occasional orginal article from contribuiting writeres and volunteers.
- Directory - a national database of organizations, associations, agencies, media resources and notable persons active in the APA community.
- Listings - this is a national bulletin board for everything from
community events, political rallies, job openings, volunteer opportunities, arts and entertainment, and general announcements
- Museum - a work in progress, this section strives to document the history of the Asian Pacific American community through words and images.
Our goal is to become the most comprehensive repository of information on Asian Pacific America. We will try to provide previously published and original content useful to community leaders, researchers, writers, journalists, educators, policy makers, students, or anyone with any interest in the APA community.

Senate to Debate Amendment Restoring Funding for Bilingual Education Next Week CONTACT YOUR SENATORS AND URGE A YES VOTE ON THE HISPANIC FUNDING AMENDMENT
The Senate bill, S. 1356, funding federal education programs is scheduled for floor debate on Tuesday, July 15, 2003. The senate bill provided substantially less funding for education programs than the House bill (an increase of only $1.5 billion, or a 2.8% increase over current funding levels).
The Senate bill CUTS Bilingual Education by $20.5 million proposing only $665 million for FY2004. Bilingual Education is currently funded at $685.5 million.
NABE and its coalition partners are supporting a Senate Hispanic Education Amendment that would increase funding for Bilingual Education to $750 million for FY04. Senator Jeff Bingaman (NM) or Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) will sponsor the Hispanic Restoration amendment.
Other programs included in the Hispanic restoration amendment include:
Title III Bilingual Education increase from $665 million to $750 million, an increase of $85 million HEP/CAMP increase from $28 million to $40 million, an increase of $12 million Migrant Education Programs increase from $396 million to $400 million, an increase of $4 million Dropout Prevention from $0 to $15 million, an increase of $15 million Hispanic Serving Institutions from $93.6 million to $98 million, an increase of $4.4 million Parent Information Centers from $42.2 million to $55 million, an increase of $12.8 million
ACTION:
We need NABE Members to call your Senators, especially your Republican
Senators and urge bipartisan support for the Hispanic Education Funding Amendment. The Senate will start debate on the Amendment as soon as Tuesday, July 15th.
- Call the U.S. Senate Switchboard (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to your Senator.
- Give your name and address and tell them you are a constituent and ask to speak to the Senator or the staff responsible for education funding.
HOUSE ED FUNDING:
The House passed H.R. 2660, the FY 04 Labor, HHS, Education and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill on Thursday, July 10, 2003. The House bill freezes bilingual education at the current FY03 level of $665 million.
