Title: “Zombie Bill” to Replace World Language with Computer Coding Resurrected in Michigan

This September, a bill resurrected in the Michigan House of Representatives would redefine language to include computer coding for high school students for completing the state’s language requirements. Opponents to this bill say that while coding is an important and useful skill, it does not hold the same function as learning a foreign language. Further, colleges and universities do not accept coding as a foreign language, and students would face road-blocks on their entrance into these institutions. This article is pertinent to the ever-changing perceptions of the value of foreign language learning.
