Translanguaging in Higher Education: Beyond Monolingual Ideologies
Edited by Catherine M. Mazak, Kevin S. Carroll
Published by Multilingual Matters

This book examines translanguaging in higher education and provides clear examples of what translanguaging looks like in practice in particular contexts around the world. While higher education has historically been seen as a monolingual space, the case studies from the international contexts included in this collection show us that institutions of higher education are often translingual spaces that reflect the multilingual environments in which they exist. Chapters demonstrate how the use of translanguaging practices within the context of global higher education, where English plays an increasingly important role, allows students and professors to build on their linguistic repertoires to more efficiently and effectively learn content. The documentation of such practices within the context of higher education will further legitimatize translanguaging practices and may lead to their increased use not only in higher education but also in both primary and secondary schools.

Title: Book: Managing Plurilingual and Intercultural Practices in the Workplace
Body:

From https://benjamins.com/#catalog/books/mdm.4/main

Managing Plurilingual and Intercultural Practices in the Workplace: The case of multilingual Switzerland
Edited by Georges Lüdi, Katharina Höchle Meier and Patchareerat Yanaprasart
Published by John Benjamins Publishing Company

The contributions in this volume stem from different lines of research and represent both a continuation and an advancement of the European DYLAN project. The book addresses the meanings and implications of multilingualism and plurilingual repertoires as well as the ways in which cultural diversity is managed in companies and institutions in Switzerland. Characterized by official quadrilingualism, but also by new dimensions of multilingualism resulting from massive immigration, important workforce mobility and increasing globalization, Switzerland offers an ideal laboratory for studying phenomena linked to multilingualism and cultural diversity.

On the one hand, a special focus is put on the best practices of diversity management and language regimes with particular attention paid to the interplay between official languages and English, and to ways of leveraging diversity awareness, fostering cultural inclusiveness and enhancing intercultural learning in vocational education and training.

Title: Call for Papers: Research Initiative on Supporting Dual Language Learner Success in Superdiverse Early Childhood Programs
Body:

From http://www.migrationpolicy.org/about/call-papers-research-initiative-supporting-dual-language-learner-success-superdiverse-early

The National Center on Immigrant Integration Policy at the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) is launching an interdisciplinary research initiative to examine policies and practices that effectively promote academic success and healthy socioemotional development in multilingual and superdiverse contexts for young Dual Language Learners (DLLs).

This initiative is focusing on superdiversity within early childhood education and care (ECEC) programs, which is an increasingly common phenomenon, but one without a clear definition or a sufficient research base. For example, the research is clear on the benefits and characteristics of well-implemented bilingual and dual-language ECEC programs in settings with a preponderance of speakers of one home language, but there is little research on effective policies and practices where no single language is spoken by most or all DLLs and few or no teachers are proficient in students’ home languages. Likewise, little is known about the effects of other aspects of superdiversity, such as race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, immigration status, parents’ education level, religion, and so on.

In order to build the research base on ECEC in superdiverse contexts, MPI is soliciting papers by scholars working in child development, education, sociology, psychology, psychiatry, anthropology, public policy, migration, and other relevant fields.

All submissions must be made by February 10, 2017, with final drafts of selected papers due in October 2017.
