Developing, Modelling and Assessing Second Languages
Edited by Jörg-U. Keßler, Anke Lenzing and Mathias Liebner
Published by the John Benjamins Publishing Company

This edited volume brings together the work of a number of researchers working in the framework of Processability Theory (PT), a psycholinguistic theory of second language acquisition (SLA) (Pienemann 1998; 2005). The aim of the volume is two-fold: It engages with current issues in both theory development and theory application and focuses on theoretical developments within the framework of PT as well as issues related to second language teaching and assessment. In coordinating approaches to addressing both theoretical and applied aspects of SLA, this volume aims at bridging the gap between theory and practice. It also reflects the richness of debate within the field of PT-based research. The volume is intended for postgraduate students, SLA researchers as well as language teachers.

Title: Book: Contemporary Second Language Assessment

From http://www.bloomsbury.com/us/contemporary-second-language-assessment-9780567632746/

Contemporary Second Language Assessment
Edited by Jayanti Veronique Banerjee and Dina Tsagari
Published by Bloomsbury Publishing

The chapters present new research or perspectives on traditional concerns such as test quality; fairness and bias; the testing of different language skills; the needs of different groups of examinees, including English language learners who need to take content tests in English; and the use of language assessments for gate-keeping purposes. The volume demonstrates how language assessment is informed by and engages with neighboring areas of applied linguistics such as technology and language corpora.

Title: Webinar: Mobile Pedagogy for English Language Teaching

Mobile pedagogy for English language teaching: putting teacher wisdom at the heart of mobile learning
Presented by Agnes Kukulska-Hulme and Lucy Norris
Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at 4:00 PM UK time

Mobile-assisted language learning is not about transferring current teaching and learning materials and practices to mobile devices, but a complete reconceptualization of learning activities. The presenters’ approach to mobile pedagogy for English language teaching is based on the long held belief that learners are active participants and communicators, taking responsibility for making and shaping their own learning. They discuss the ways in which mobile and digital technologies support this in ways that were either previously impossible or very time-consuming. This webinar explores the ways in which teachers can be guided by the presenters’ framework to design language learning tasks to engage learners both in, and beyond the classroom.
