Title: Free Summer Workshops for Ohio ASL Teachers

Hello ASL colleagues,

We’re holding 3 free workshops this summer for Ohio ASL teachers. To register in STARS through your SAFE account, go to https://safe.ode.state.oh.us/portal. Keyword: ASL

June 7 – Oak Hills High School, Cincinnati
June 16 – Westerville Central High School, Westerville/Columbus
Early August (date and location TBD) - Cleveland/Northeast Ohio

Time: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. One hour lunch on your own.

Description: PLEASE BRING LAPTOP AND TEACHING STRATEGIES, RESOURCES OR IDEAS TO SHARE. This workshop is for Ohio ASL teachers to network and collaborate with other ASL teachers. The workshop will cover the following:

·     Practice assessing student signing videos and providing feedback using the draft ASL performance rubrics from ODE;
·     Performance and proficiency in the ASL classroom;
·     Technology options for assessing students;
·     Sharing of instructional ideas and resources;
·     Creating an online collaborative platform to share ASL resources;
·     Other topics as requested by the group.
·     Facilitated by Kathy Shelton, ODE World Language Specialist; and ASL Regional Teacher Leaders from ODE.

I invite you to nominate a qualified junior or sophomore (10th or 11th graders) to receive the 2016 ACTR Russian Scholar Laureate Award. Please nominate your most deserving sophomore or junior from your Russian Classes at the Secondary School Russian student for this award. Nominations will be accepted until June 30, 2016.

Any school that has more than 100 students studying Russian may nominate two students (sophomore or junior)

There is no fee for participation in this program but your membership in ACTR must be current.
