Title: Survey of Russian Programs
Body:

From the SEELANGS listserv:

The Committee on College and Pre-College Russian (CCPCR) has been conducting annual surveys of pre-college Russian programs since 1984. Since 1998, more than 230 pre-college Russian programs have been terminated at schools across the country. At present, more than 20 states appear to have no programs.

This year’s pre-college census has just begun. As can be seen on the CCPCR State-by-State overview page, (http://www1.american.edu/research/CCPCR/cendir.htm), for many years no pre-college programs have been identified in Arkansas, Delaware, Washington DC, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Nevada, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, or Utah.

Most of these states have college/university level Russian programs. CCPCR seeks your help in identifying any existing programs that have not been reported. Please e-mail ccpcr@american.edu if you know of such programs!

Thanks for your help!

Title: Blog Post: Your Heritage Speaking Students Think You Are Weird
Body:

From https://mrpeto.wordpress.com

Teacher Mike Peto writes, “Imagine being an American high school student placed in a basic literacy class. You need this class. Perhaps you are aware that your writing is full of errors. You may even recognize that this could be good for you. However, there is one major problem: your teacher is British. Nobody in your world speaks like her, not even educated adults. Sometimes you do not even understand her! A kind and progressive educator, she never corrects your dialect, but there it is every time she opens her mouth. Would you imitate her? Would you try to figure out which part of her speech to imitate and which part to discard? Or would it just be way too weird?”

Read on to apply this perspective to heritage Spanish learners, and for resources to expose your heritage learners to a variety of authentic resources representing different dialects: https://mrpeto.wordpress.com/2016/04/17/your-heritage-speaking-students-think-you-are-weird/
