Title: Webinar: Building Educational Communities of Inclusion in PreK-12 Setting
Body:
The Center for Applied Linguistics will be holding a free webinar, “Building Educational Communities of Inclusion in PreK-12 Setting,” on April 25 from 1 to 2 PM Eastern Time.
Students from non-English-speaking backgrounds are the fastest growing segment of the K-12 student population in the United States. An increasing number of these students are newcomers – recent arrivals who have limited or no English language proficiency and who often have had limited formal education in their native countries.
In this webinar, the presenters will outline the context for increased diversity in school settings, examine the critical role played by cultural proficiency in successfully welcoming and orienting newcomers to their schools and communities, and explore examples of approaches that increase educational access and opportunity for every student.

Title: Study Looks at American Perceptions of Germany
Body:
The majority of Americans view Germany in a positive light and Germany is considered the top non-English speaking U.S. partner, according to a new study financed by the German Information Center and conducted by Magid Associates. Germany is also considered to be in the top five most influential countries on U.S. politics, and 62 percent of Americans believe Germany and the U.S. have a close bond. The data was presented at the German Marshall Fund on April 5, where it was followed by a panel discussion of modern-day German-American relations.
