Title: ACTFL Full OPI Workshop in Arabic
Body:

The Arabic program at the University of Oregon plans to host an ACTFL full OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) workshop in Arabic, May 26-29, 2016.

The Full OPI Workshop is an intensive four-day introduction to the techniques of administering and rating the Oral Proficiency Interview. The rating scale and techniques for eliciting a ratable sample are highlighted and reinforced in daily sessions. Participants have the opportunity to observe live demonstration interviews conducted by the trainer. Under the trainer's supervision, they then conduct their own practice interviews with volunteer candidates. The group critiques and discusses both these practice interviews and their ratings. Following the workshop, participants can apply to become ACTFL OPI certified Raters and Testers.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

• apply key principles of teaching and testing for proficiency to curriculum, instruction, and assessment;
• establish their program goals in terms of performance outcomes;
• determine student placement, progress, and performance;
• gain employment for administering OPI examinations (either in person, or over the phone);
•enhance their teaching opportunities by acquiring the ACTFL OPI certification in Arabic.

The workshop will be subsidized by the University of Oregon. The cost will be approximately $500 for tuition and material. Participants are responsible for their accommodation, transportation and meals. No ACTFL membership is necessary. The program will have no more than ten trainees.

Those interested in participating in this program should email Dr. Hanan Elsherif  (hahmad@uoregon.edu) by January 25, signaling the likelihood of your participation.
