Title: Euro Challenge Competition for Students and Teachers
Body:

From http://www.germany.info/Vertretung/usa/en/newsletter/Germany__In__Class/Germany-in-Class-201509.html

Euro Challenge is an attractive contest for students, teachers, and administrators – the program follows the Common Core curriculum while giving students a unique opportunity to learn about the EU and the Euro and requires no previous knowledge of Europe or economics. Instead, students gain knowledge by researching problems and developing solutions to economic challenges within an EU country, then presenting those findings at regional, then national, competitions. It's a great addition for students' CVs, college applications, and future internships/careers.

Student teams of three to five students are asked to make presentations answering specific questions about the European economy and the single currency, the euro. They are also asked to pick one member country of the “euro area” (the 19 EU member countries that have adopted the euro so far), to examine an economic problem at the country level, and to identify policies for responding to that problem.

Teams can already submit video entries for regional competitions, making it much easier for more schools around the country to get their students participating. Here are the key stages/dates for this new edition:

  • September 2015 – Registration opens. The deadline for registration is end-January 2016.
  • December 2015 – Euro Challenge Orientations begin. We will provide updates with specific dates for both in person and online orientations. By this point you should have begun gathering teams and preparing which country and challenge question to choose.
  • January 2016 – Teams begin researching their chose country and challenge question and preparing their presentation.
  • March 2016 – The preliminary rounds of the Euro Challenge will be held.
  • April 19, 2016 – The semi-finals and finals of the Euro Challenge will be held in New York City at the New York Federal Reserve. Prizes will be then be presented at the Moody’s Foundation.
  • June 2016 – The winning teams will go to Washington DC to give their presentations at the embassy of the country they have chosen and attend an awards ceremony at the Delegation of the EU to the USA, and lots more!
