Title: Advice for Paraprofessionals Working with English Learners
Body:

From https://elementaryenglishlanguagelearners.weebly.com

Valentina Gonzalez writes, "Paraprofessional educators truly serve more than students. They serve the teachers on the campus as well. They have one of the most challenging jobs. If you are a paraprofessional educator reading this article, let me commend you. You do so much for so many people. If are a teacher reading this, thank your paraprofessionals. Give them some extra love. And pass this article along to them so they can grow in their craft.

"The intention of this piece is because as a presenter, teacher trainer and professional development specialist, I recognized that there is little out there written specifically for paraprofessional educators. The need is clear. So this is for you."

Title: Field Related: Help for English Academic Writing
Body:

From http://fieldrelated.com

The Field Related website allows users to paste in a text. The program analyzes the text for how academic or conversational it is based on sentence length, and it also uses specific vocabulary in the text to align it with different academic fields. A separate section of the website has targeted resources for a wide variety of specialized academic fields.

Note that the website keeps your text and may use it for further development; read the terms and conditions carefully before deciding if you will use it.

Title: Relay Passing Activities
Body:

From http://pomegranatebeginnings.blogspot.com

Miriam Patrick describes an activity her students did in her Latin III class: as part of a medicine unit, students drew an image depicting a disease. Then, they passed papers to another student who wrote a sentence about the disease. The next student drew three remedies. The next student writes a sentence about the correct remedy. Finally, students label everything that has been drawn.

This sort of activity has many cousins, all related to writing and/or drawing and then passing the paper on to another student to add new material. The blog post finishes with a roundup of links to descriptions of many of these similar activities.

Title: Micro-Writing for Lessening Writing Anxiety
Body:

From https://www.edsurge.com/news/2018-09-30-micro-writing-is-having-a-macro-impact-on-identity-development

Your InterCom editor was lucky enough to attend a 3-hour workshop with Ted Zarrow at last weekend's WAFLT-COFLT Fall Conference. Dr. Zarrow noted that many students struggle with writing anxiety. In this recent EdSurge article, Bryan Christopher describes how he uses micro-writing tasks to get his students expressing themselves more comfortably. Although Mr. Christopher uses these techniques in regular language arts class, they would also be powerful in language classes.
