The 22nd Annual Conference of the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages is scheduled for April 26-28, 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia. The conference aims to pursue a new pathway for advocating innovative approaches in research and practices, maximizing professional exchanges and collaboration among LCTL educators, and leveraging resources and strengths in the less commonly taught languages community.

Title: CABE Summer Spanish Dual Language Immersion Institute

The California Association for Bilingual Education Summer Spanish Dual Language Immersion Institute has strands for TK-12 teachers, coaches, and administrators and provides the opportunity to learn the critical research, theory, and pedagogy necessary to become a strong and successful DLI teacher, elementary English partner teacher, instructional coach, or administrator. The strands for DLI teachers who teach in Spanish will be conducted in Spanish. The strand for the elementary English partner teacher and the administrator strands will be presented in English. There will be collaboration time for teams, so the organizers highly recommend that you bring a team (administrators, coaches, and teachers) from your district/site!

Title: Registration Open: Northwest Indian Language Institute

Registration is now open for NILI's Summer Institute. This year's institute will take place June 17-28 at the University of Oregon in Eugene. The theme is "Sharing our paths, creating community."
At NILI, participants from across the Pacific Northwest and elsewhere gather to work on their languages. Ranging in age from elders to youth, participants live, learn and speak together. A typical day at SI begins with an advocacy class focused on language revitalization, followed by linguistics and language classes. Languages taught at SI are Ichishkiin, Dee-ni’, Lushootseed, Chinuk Wawa, and others requested by participants. The afternoon is devoted to Native language teaching strategies, language documentation, creating teaching materials, and NILI’s youth program. A weekend workshop brings participants together for learning and fun. Scholarships from donors, offices and departments on campus, and NILI support many participants to attend.
The scholarship application deadline is April 1.

Title: Call for Participation: Princeton Slavic Digital Humanities Summer Workshop

Learn about the theories, methods and practice of digital humanities (DH) in the Slavic and East European fields at the 2019 Slavic DH Summer Workshop, taking place at Princeton University (Princeton, NJ) September 3-6, 2019.
The thematic focus of the 2019 Workshop is “Digital Humanities and Visual Resources: The Material and Digital Lives of Eastern European and Russian Artifacts.”
The four-day event will combine short instructional sessions, keynote lectures, works-in-progress presentations by participants, and free time for individual research with optional consultations with workshop instructors. The event will also include a day spent at the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University, home of the renowned Russian & Soviet Nonconformist Art collection.
The instructional sessions on DH tools and methods will be aimed at beginning, intermediate and more advanced audiences. Possible workshop topics (to be finalized with input from accepted participants) include: structured metadata design, linked open data, OmekaS (https://omeka.org/s/), computer vision for visual source analysis, and the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) (https://iiif.io/).
All scholars working the Slavic and East European fields— faculty, postdocs, librarians, archivists, technologists, graduate students and undergraduates—are eligible to apply. No previous experience in digital humanities is necessary.
A particular aim of the Slavic DH Summer Workshop is to foster international collaborations and strategic discussions about the infrastructures needed to promote Slavic and East European digital humanities scholarship in the global context.
We hope to offer at least partial funding for accepted workshop participants, but funding is not guaranteed.
Priority will be given to applications received by March 23, 2019. Funding will be allocated on a first come, first-served basis.
Application should include:
· Statement of interest (no more than 500 words) which should indicate how attending this workshop will benefit your scholarly or professional goals. Briefly describe your current DH project(s), if applicable.
· Preferred DH tools or methods for the instructional sessions
· Funding request (please break down by cost of flight, ground transportation, lodging, food). Please indicate alternative or supplemental funding sources available.

The Leadership Initiative for Language Learning is based on the premise that every educator is a leader and strives to be highly effective. For language educators, effectiveness is demonstrated by evidence of learners’ growth in proficiency, including their growth in interculturality. This initiative aims to bring the best and brightest language educators, teacher leaders, and national experts to explore this issue and others important to you and the language organization naming you as an Emerging Leader. As an Emerging Leader, you will have the opportunity to discover your sphere of influence for effecting change, engage with peers, and create your own proactive plan in support of the organizing naming you to participate, while growing in your effectiveness as a leader and language teacher. LILL is a two-year commitment for this new cohort of Emerging Leaders, agreeing to participate in two summer institutes: June 2019 and June 2020.
The 2019 institute will take place June 24-26 in Franklin, Tennessee. To be nominated to attend, you must be selected by your state, regional, or national professional organization.

Heritage Spanish Workshop
June 10-11, 2019 at the University of Texas at Austin
This workshop, hosted by TeCHS (Texas Coalition for Heritage Spanish), will gather facilitators from several universities in Texas (Texas A&M, Texas A&M Commerce, Houston Baptist, UTRGV, UT Austin and Baylor). Heritage Spanish instructors of all levels will receive practical and effective ideas that they can implement in their heritage language classrooms, including technology use, project based learning, and vocabulary development.
