Dear FLTEACH colleagues
I'm a fairly new member on your lively list and have been reading your discussions over the past week or so with great interest. Perhaps I should declare straight away that this is a message from 'across the pond'. I do hope that's OK, and that the content is appropriate for the list.
I'm an English woman living in Madrid co-ordinating a European project on 'Language Resource Centres' (LRCs). The project brings together 16 partners from 13 European countries. We have been working together for nearly 2 years now and have produced a publication:
The LRC handbook: guidelines for setting up, running and expanding Language Resource Centres
It's brief (50 pages), practical and contains case studies from all of our partners. It's aimed at anyone involved in LRCs, whether it's a modest resource corner in a school classroom to a University or Community language centre. The publication can be downloaded - in any of 16 European languages - free of charge, from the LRC portal www.lrcnet.org
You are also warmly welcomed to take part in discussions on any aspect of LRCs on the electronic discussion Forum on the same site. We have 'topics' on Management, Users, Resources and Services, and Facilities - and members from many different countries. Please do feel free to contribute, to browse the messages already sent or to set up a new topic if you wish.
We (project partners) would be very interested to read your comments and hear about the situation with LRCs in the States . . . as well as to receive any feedback you can give us on the publication.
We're running a promotional on-line draw (with amazon.com vouchers and publications for your Language Centres or Departments as prizes) for all of June and July. I'll send information about that in a separate mail, if I may, so you can forward it to anyone who might be interested.

Hello everyone!
Anyone who would be interested in a Spanish teaching position in Lancaster County, PA (or know of someone else who'd consider it), please read on!
Penn Manor High School, located in Millersville, PA, is accepting applications for a part-time Spanish position due to increased enrollment! We operate on a 4x4 block schedule, and this position would be a "full-day" job, but only for the fall semester. (So you'd have the flexibility to pursue a sabbatical/maternity leave in the spring, for example.) Our HS has been recently renovated (1997) and includes over 500 computers, with a computer lab in the FL hallway. We are located within a one hour drive to Harrisburg, York, Reading, and Chester County.
Teachers have three blocks of teaching, and one block for prep. Blocks are approx 85 minutes long. Teachers with 1st or 4th block prep have 15 minutes of "duty" time at the beginning/end of the day to monitor students getting on/off busses, etc - but your prep time is your prep time! Students begin studying FL in an 8th grade intro course, and then proceed to Spanish 1 at the HS in 9th grade. (This position is to teach sections of Sp 1.) We use the Bravo series for levels 1,2,3.
Our FL dept is a fantastic group of people! We offer Spanish (1-5), French (1-5), German (1-5), Italian (1-3), and Latin (1). We have offered trips to Spain in 2000, 2002, and are working on one for 2004, through Passports - a student travel company. I am the foreign language department chairperson, and would be happy to answer any preliminary questions.
