Title: Speakers of Krio, Mende and Temne Sought as Volunteers
Body:

Since the rise of the Ebola crisis, Translators without Borders (TWB), a non-profit organization that provides translation services to support humanitarian efforts, has translated posters and informational materials from the CDC, International SOS, and Doctors without Borders into Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and Swahili. Most printed information about Ebola is in English or more widely spoken African languages, leaving out smaller language communities that are also affected by the virus. This issue can be addressed by providing educational materials about Ebola in the localized languages of the affected populations. You can help! Volunteer! There are still communities that are in dire need of accurate information about the symptoms, spread, and treatment of the virus -information in the language they use every day. Specifically, there is a critical need for content in the Krio, Mende, and Temne languages. For more information about Translators without Borders and to sign up as a volunteer translator, go to http://translatorswithoutborders.org/Volunteers/Translator-app

Title: Exhibition in Connecticut and Massachusetts: Roman in the Provinces: Art on the Periphery of Empire
Body:

From http://artgallery.yale.edu/exhibitions/exhibition/roman-provinces-art-periphery-empire

Roman in the Provinces: Art on the Periphery of Empire

 August 22, 2014–January 4, 2015
Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, Conn.
 February 14, 2015–May 31, 2015
McMullen Museum of Art, Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Mass.

The Roman Empire was vast and diverse, but the inhabitants of even its most far-flung provinces—Britain, Gaul, Turkey, Syria, Egypt, and Tunisia—were all, to some degree, “Roman.” Roman in the Provinces: Art on the Periphery of Empire examines the interaction between local traditions and Roman imperial culture through artifacts of daily life, politics, technology, and religion. The juxtaposition of mosaics, ceramics, sculpture, glass, textiles, coins, and jewelry presents a rich image of life in the Roman provinces. The exhibition features objects from across the empire, including works from Yale University’s excavations at Gerasa and Dura-Europos, many of which have rarely or never before been on view.
