Title: Workshops in New Jersey and Illinois: Technology and Online Resources for Latin Teaching
Body: From http://www.ascaniusyci.org I Came, I Saw, I Clicked: Technology and Online Resources for Latin Teaching In this workshop, you'll explore innovative new methods for using technology, software, and online resources for: Latin instruction; Latin practice and review activities; and assessment in the Latin classroom. Teachers will gain ideas that are specific to Latin and can be implemented in the classroom immediately. Participants should bring their own WiFi-capable laptops for the best experience. The presentation style is enthusiastic and supportive, with plenty of opportunity for hands-on interaction by participants, group discussion, and analysis. Title: Nominations Sought for Matthew I. Wiencke Teaching Award
Body: The Matthew I. Wiencke award recognizes excellence in teaching at the primary, middle and secondary school levels. Nominations are invited for this year’s award. A nominee must be: a member of the Classical Association of New England, currently teaching Classics in a New England primary, middle, or secondary school, and nominated by a professional colleague (fellow teacher or administrator at the nominee’s school, or a classicist from another school who knows the nominee well in a professional capacity.) Letters of nomination should contain evidence of the nominee’s qualifications, particularly those qualities exemplified by Matt Wiencke in his personal life and professional career, among them “his infectious wit, his boundless enthusiasm, his optimism, and his loyalty,” as expressed by Norman Doenges in his memorial published in the November 1996 issue of the New England Classical Journal. Only those nominations postmarked by December 31 of the year preceding the next CANE Annual Meeting will be considered for that year’s award, which is presented at the Annual Meeting in spring. Title: Spanish Film Club Brings Spanish Films to University Campuses
Body: From http://pragda.com/spanishfilmclub Spanish Film Club (SFC), an initiative by PRAGDA, offers grants twice a year to help universities bring the very best in contemporary Spanish and Latin American cinema to campuses to introduce students to the language and cultures of these territories. The model allows universities to select a minimum of five films from a catalogue to create a film festival on campus. A committee of American and Spanish experts in Spanish language cinema has made an eclectic and diverse selection of films featuring first-time filmmakers and established masters alike. All films feature English subtitles. Representing 15 countries, the films renew every year. Spanish Film Club also allows the organization of virtual Q&As with filmmakers and provides with all the necessary material for its promotion. The next grant application deadline is October 15, 2013.
