Title: Ideas for Reviewing Vocabulary
Body: Here are a few ideas that teachers have shared with each other on the Latinteach listserv for reviewing vocabulary: --- Around The World is a favorite review activity, everywhere I've taught. Have a student stand behind the chair of another. Say a vocab in word in either English or Latin. The first student to give you the definition in the other language moves to stand behind the chair of the next student, and the lose stays (or sits) in that chair. The first child to make it back to his own desk is the winner. Everyone gets to hear all of the vocabulary, you can use difficult words over and over, and the kids have a lot of fun sometimes shouting words at you until they get the correct one. McCormick-Lane, S. Re: [Latinteach] vocabulary review activity. Latinteach listserv (latinteach@nxport.com, 9 Jan 2013). --- Some possibilities which enhance student enthusiasm for knowing forms, translations, history, mythology, etc. are board races, Jeopardy, letter scramble, team competition, quiz bowl, or whatever your imagination dreams of doing. Colás, L. Re: [Latinteach] Vocabulary Review Activity. Latinteach listserv (latinteach@nxport.com, 9 Jan 2013).

Title: Creative Presentation Ideas
Body: From http://martinabex.com Here is a chart with twelve different ideas for presentations: martinabex.com/2013/06/21/creative-presentation-ideas From the blog’s author: “These presentations could be used at any point during the year as a way for students to present on any topic, book, or story from class. Most of the ideas could be modified to be used with an entire book or a single character or scene. Each one could be used as a prop for an oral presentation (done formally to the class or to the teacher or informally as a simultaneous presentation), and many could be simply on display in the classroom or at a special event, like Open House or Conferences.”

Title: Book: Interpretation of English Reflexives by Child and Adult L2 Learners
Body: From http://linguistlist.org/issues/24/24-2736.html Interpretation of English Reflexives by Child and Adult L2 Learners By Amer Al Kafri Published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing This book casts new light on the debate of adult L2 learners’ access to Universal Grammar (UG) by comparing the performance of adult L2 learners with that of child L2 learners. The study in this book compares Arabic- and Chinese-speaking child and adult L2 learners’ acquisition of English reflexives, particularly concentrating on the differences between child and adult L2 learners in terms of their a) acquisition of the local binding of English reflexives, b) obedience of UG constraints on reflexives and c) knowledge of the syntactic differences between reflexives and pronouns. The findings of this study will be of interest to L2 researchers in generative grammar, in general, and in second language acquisition, in particular. Title: Call for Papers: Current Approaches to Spanish and Portuguese Second Language Phonology
Body: From http://linguistlist.org/issues/24/24-2730.html The fourth bi-annual conference on Current Approaches to Spanish and Portuguese Second Language Phonology (CASPSLaP) will be held at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, March 14-16, 2014. The presentations will include a wide range of contexts, from acquisition of Spanish phonology by English speakers to the acquisition of Portuguese phonology by Spanish speakers; from classroom-based learning to full immersion in the culture of the second language; and all other related topics. By focusing on the breadth of approaches that scholars are taking to the study of second language phonological acquisition in Spanish and Portuguese, this conference aims to represent the state-of-the-art in second language phonological acquisition. The conference features plenary speaker Joan Bybee (University of New Mexico), workshops on dialectal variation and event related potentials, and a special interactive pedagogy-focused session on best practices in classroom pronunciation instruction. The conference is held in concert with the Georgetown University Round Table on Languages and Linguistics (GURT). The theme of GURT 2014 is Usage-based and Cognitive Approaches to Language Learning and Multilingualism. The plenary speakers include Elissa Newport, Adele Goldberg, Nick Ellis and Elena Lieven. Submissions will be accepted through http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/CASPSLaP2014 until October 1, 2013. View the full call for submissions at http://linguistlist.org/issues/24/24-2730.html

Title: Call for Papers: Electronic Village Online
Body: From http://evosessions.pbworks.com/w/page/66615668/Call%20for%20Proposals%202014 The CALL Interest Section of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, Inc. (TESOL) offers language teachers world-wide the opportunity to participate in the Electronic Village Online (EVO), a professional development project and virtual extension of the TESOL 2014 Convention in Portland, USA. The intended audience for this project includes both TESOL convention-goers and those who can participate only virtually. Interest Sections, Affiliates, E-groups, and other member groups of TESOL in particular are invited to sponsor sessions related to the convention or of general interest to teachers of ESL/EFL. For five weeks in January-February, participants and ESOL experts can engage in collaborative, online discussion or hands-on virtual workshops of professional and scholarly benefit. These sessions will bring together participants for a longer period of time than is permitted by the four-day convention and will allow a fuller development of ideas than is otherwise possible in convention sessions. Sessions may be on any topic in ESL/EFL (not necessarily about technology) and are free and open to all interested parties. Session leaders (moderators) need not have previous experience in online teaching. Co-moderation with several people is strongly recommended. Moderators, at least one of whom must be a TESOL member, will receive hands-on training in online discussion management and the use of live virtual chat and audio rooms during our moderators' training session October 21 - November 12, 2013. Deadline for proposals: September 22, 2013 For full details go to http://evosessions.pbworks.com/w/page/66615668/Call%20for%20Proposals%202014
