Playaling is a new resource for learning Arabic (MSA, Egyptian, and Shamy for now) with videos and interactive captioning. Here is the summary from the Arabic K-12 Teachers Network newsletter:

"Jordan Gerstler-Holton is excited to introduce http://Playaling.com, a new resource for learning MSA and dialects (just Egyptian and Shamy for now). Jordan says: "As a former student of Arabic (including CASA in Cairo), I wanted to address the dearth of decent resources currently available. Playaling makes authentic Arabic content accessible via interactive captioning. To use the interactive feature, put your mouse over the transcription in one of the videos.

"'This is just the beginning. We're uploading new content and improving user experience. In terms of development, next on our to-do list is detailed metadata for pop up dictionary entries, including information on particles of speech, gender, grammatical concepts, contextual info, and more. Longer-term goals include flashcards, games, and interactive activities using content from the videos.'

"Credit for this amazing resource goes to Jordan Gerstler-Holton, Muhammad Sabri, Nourhan Wageeh, Chelsea C. Villareal, Dima Ulyanets, Angie Mouki, Brooke Sauro, Mahmoud Algherbawi, Hanan Shawky, Bisan Mohammed, Mariam Enany, Paige Milligan, and Elisabeth Boeck."

Playaling is available at http://playaling.com/
