Body | This week, we depart from our normal activity format to provide learners with the opportunity to explore a variety of speaking strategies. In this activity, learners will choose a speaking activity video from the CASLS Speaking Activities Playlist and reflect on their learning with 3-2-1 Bridge.
Learning outcomes:
Learners will be able to:
- Describe a new speaking strategy
- Reflect on the utility of the speaking strategy
Mode(s): Presentational, Interpersonal
Materials: CASLS Speaking Activities Playlist, device with internet access
- First, choose the video from the CASLS Speaking Activities Playlist you want to work with, but don’t watch it yet!
- Next, consider the title of the video. Based on your impressions of the title or on your previous knowledge of the related topic, write down:
- Then, watch the video.
- After you have watched the video, think about what you now know about the topic. Then write down:
- 3 words or ideas
- 2 questions
- 1 metaphor or simile
- Finally, compare your 3-2-1 lists from before and after watching the video. Consider the following questions:
- Did the words or ideas you wrote down change? Which ones?
- Did you have the same or different questions about the topic each time? What about the metaphor or simile?
- Why do you think each of your 3-2-1 answers remained the same or changed?
- What can the changes (if any) tell you about the differences between what you knew before and what you know now?
