TitleEstablishing a Rigorous, Individualized Environment in the Classroom

This week's Activity of the Week is an inventory for educators to use when planning for, and establishing, a rigorous, individualized environment for neuroatypical learners.

Objectives:

Teachers will be able to:

  • Examine personal awareness of the needs of individual learners.

  • Articulate a plan for promoting a rigourous environment for individual learners.

Materials: Inventory 

Procedure:

1. Read the Inventory with a specifc learner in mind.

2. Read the Inventory again. Circle every statement in the inventory that you feel confident of when thinking of the student.

3. Select one statement you did not circle as your goal. Articulate your plan for achieving the goal by stating specific steps you will engage in, setting a timeline for yourself, and establishing a way to measure your progress.

4. Share your goal with a trusted colleague for feedback and guidance.

5. Reflect regularly on your progress and change your goal when it is appropriate to do so.
