Title: Funding Opportunity: Gilman Internation Scholarships
Body: From http://www.iie.org/programs/gilman/overview/overview.html Welcome! Thank you for your interest in the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program. This program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies abroad. Such international study is intended to better prepare U.S. students to assume significant roles in an increasingly global economy and interdependent world. Congressman Benjam A. Gilman with Gilman Scholar Alumni at a reception in his honor at the U.S. Department of State. International experience is critically important in the educational and career development of American students, but it can also require a substantial financial investment. The Gilman Scholarship Program broadens the student population that studies abroad by supporting undergraduates who might not otherwise participate due to financial constraints. The program aims to encourage students to choose non-traditional study abroad destinations, especially those outside of Western Europe and Australia. The Gilman scholarship aims to support students who have been traditionally under-represented in study abroad, including but not limited to, students with high financial need, community college students, students in under-represented fields such as the sciences and engineering, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities. The program seeks to assist students from a diverse range and type of public and private institutions from all 50 states. For more information, visit http://www.iie.org/programs/gilman/overview/overview.html .

Title: New Book: Understanding Language Teaching
Body: From http://cf.linguistlist.org/cfdocs/new-website/LL-WorkingDirs/pubs/books/get-book.cfm?BookID=18074 Title: Understanding Language Teaching: From Method to Postmethod Written By: B. Kumaravadivelu (San José State University) Description: This book traces the historical development of major language teaching methods in terms of theoretical principles and classroom procedures, and provides a critical evaluation of each. Drawing from seminal, foundational texts and from critical commentaries made by various scholars, Kumaravadivelu examines the profession's current transition from method to postmethod and, in the process, elucidates the relationship between theory, research, and practice. The chief objective is to help readers see the pattern that connects language, learning, teaching methods, and postmethod perspectives. "Understanding Language Teaching: From Method to Postmethod" is intended for an international audience of teacher educators, practicing teachers and graduate students, researchers, curriculum planners, and materials designers in the field of second and foreign language teaching. Body: I want to tell you about my newest multimedia Website, EZSlang.com (http://www.ezslang.com). This site is specifically designed to help ESL learners improve their understanding of conversational English. You will learn idioms, slang, and pronunciation tips to reduce your accent as you listen to conversations on a variety of topics. There are a number of other activities for each lesson including discussion questions, vocabulary exercises, and even writing practice. Like all of my other Websites, using the site is completely free. By request, many visitors have asked me to somehow arrange all of my listening activities on http://www.esl-lab.com by topic so they can find conversations on specific subjects they are studying. Therefore, I have updated my Self-Study Guide (http://www.esl-lab.com/guide.htm) and placed a more visible link to this page right under the title of my General Listening Quizzes.
