Title: National Chinese Language and Culture Coalition
Body:
Organized by Chinese Language Association of Secondary-elementary Schools (CLASS), Chinese Schools Association in the United States (CSAUS), National Council of Associations of Chinese Language Schools (NCACLS), and facilitated by the National East Asian Languages Resource Center (NEALRC), the National Chinese Language and Culture Coalition (NCLCC) strives to improve the ability of young Americans to communicate in Chinese language and culture in order to strengthen the competitiveness of the United States and contribute to global harmony.
To realize the mission, the three founding organizations draw on their respective strengths to promote the study of Chinese language and culture by encouraging pipeline programs from K-12 to the highest levels of proficiency and expertise, developing high quality teacher training, offering more study abroad programs, and supporting projects using modern technology in research projects, materials development, curriculum design, and assessment.
Visit the coalition’s website at http://nclcc.nealrc.org/ to learn more.

Title: Chinese Lesson for Middle School Students: Tang Dynasty Poems
Body:
From http://asiasociety.org/china-learning-initiatives/tang-dynasty-poems-facebook-7th-century
Randi Hacker, who teaches middle school Chinese in Lawrence, Kansas, draws a parallel between occasional poems of the Tang Dynasty and modern-day Facebook posts. Learn how he introduces conventions of this genre to his students and inspires them to write their own modern-day versions in this blog post: http://asiasociety.org/china-learning-initiatives/tang-dynasty-poems-facebook-7th-century
Here is a wonderful example of one of the student's poems:
When Your Friend Leaves You Hanging
I run down the halls of West Middle School
After a rigorous training in mathematics
I look up to see a familiar face walking in my direction
I suddenly am lifted to joy and raise my hand in a high-five formation
But my heart skips a beat as I see that he has not done the same
He passes me by with a simple “sup” and leaves me ashamed and dishonored.
