Body
Live on Germany.info, watch a discussion on the Berlin Wall.

At the height of the Cold War, the communist East German regime surprised the world be sealing off the border to West Berlin in the early morning hours of August 13, 1961.

In a joint effort by the German Embassy, Deutsche Welle TV, the Bertelsmann Foundation, the BMW Foundation and the Newseum, this presentation is the first of a three part series to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The panelist will include: Professor Richard Smyser, former U.S. diplomat and author of the recently published book Kennedy and the Wall: " A hell of a lot better than a War," Colonel Verner Oike, commanding U.S. officer at Check Point Charlie on August 13, 1961, and Kalus M. von Keussler, who witnessed the event as a student, and assisted East Germans to escape into the West.

The live stream at Germany.info will include the panelist's discussion as well as historical footage from 1961.
