More N.J. schools teach Mandarin Chinese

The number of New Jersey districts teaching Chinese has roughly doubled since 2005, according to Lucy Lee, a Livingston High School Chinese teacher and member of the board of Foreign Language Educators of New Jersey. About 38 districts now offer it, and more are considering it.

While some students take Chinese because it's less commonly studied or is a change of pace after years of grade-school Spanish, many of them, too, say they recognize its global value.
