Lecturer in Japanese, jointly appointed by
the Residential College and the Department of Asian Languages and
Cultures

One three-year lectureship in Japanese starting Fall 2004; subsequent
renewal contingent on enrollments, performance and budget. Applicants
should have at least an M.A., native proficiency, and a record of
proven excellence in teaching the Japanese language. Primary
responsibility is to develop and teach in a new semi-immersion Japanese Program involving a sequence of two intensive semester-long courses (at the first- and second-year level, respectively), daily extra-classroom conversational sessions, and a comprehensive examination at the end of each year. A salary supplement will be provided for development of the Program in summer 2004.

The Residential College is an undergraduate academic unit and
living-learning community within the College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LS&A), with an interdisciplinary academic curriculum and
highly-regarded intensive language programs in Spanish, French, German, Russian and Latin. The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures is an undergraduate and graduate academic unit within LS&A, offering courses on East Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia in many Humanities disciplines and instruction in both classical and modern Japanese, Chinese and Tibetan, as well as in12 other modern languages of the region.
