HMONG NATIONAL CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

Over the past ten years, Hmong National Development, Inc. (HND) has hosted the Hmong National Conference to bring together professionals, scholars, community members, youth, and leaders to increase capacity, promote active civic participation, discuss community challenges, and to celebrate the successes together.

"Connecting Across Communities" is the theme for the 9th Hmong National Conference - it reflects the growth of the community, and our need to build networks and coalitions with each other that extends beyond our neighborhoods and our community.

CONFERENCE GOALS

The conference is an opportunity for individuals from around the country to come together to (1) increase the professional capacity of professionals serving the Hmong; (2) promote community and civic activism of Hmong Americans; (3) promote and develop youth leadership and activism; and (4) promote the increase of scholarly works so it is beneficial to the Hmong community.

Hmong National Development, Inc. (HND) hosts this national conference for people of all backgrounds to learn, share, and network, as well as to embrace and appreciate Hmong history and culture. The conference goals are to develop capacity of those who serve Hmong, stimulate active participation of the Hmong American community, and encourage partnerships and collaboration among diverse people working to improve the lives of new Americans. The Conference serves as an avenue for community, professional, and leadership development for Hmong and non-Hmong alike.

The Conference brings together a diverse array of viewpoints and
experiences, and aims to seek dialogue and common ground among them. We invite presentations from service providers, educators, researchers, policy makers, youth, business representatives, government officials, media representatives, and others interested in improving the lives of the community.

The Conference has emphasis on:
- Increasing the professional capacity of persons serving Hmong constituents
- Mobilizing Hmong Americans to be active in the civic process
- Developing Hmong youth leadership
- Promoting scholarly works/research relevant to the well being of the
community

Conference organizers encourage workshops that explore actions and projects
at different levels (from local, statewide, regional to national), and
workshops that are innovative in format.
