TitleWestern Initiative for Language Leadership
Body
Those who are selected to join the Western Initiative for Language Leadership (WILL), a two-year professional development program in Portland, Oregon, can be sure that they will be challenged to become better teachers.

The Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS) at the University of Oregon invites second language teachers to apply for this unique opportunity. Participants will work as a collegial group supported by CASLS' staff, national experts, and previous WILL participants serving as mentors. Over two separate weeklong summer institutes, participants will focus on action research and leadership, culminating in two yearlong projects.

Historically, WILL has supported rural second language teachers with five or fewer years of teaching experience. Teachers in the member states of the two western regional language associations, the Pacific Northwest Council for Languages (PNCFL) and the Southwest Conference on Language Teaching (SWCOLT), are eligible to apply.

CASLS also encourages teachers who may not entirely meet these criteria to apply. If you desire to improve your teaching and to become a leader beyond your classroom, consider joining WILL from 2009-2011.

The program begins with a summer institute in Portland, Oregon, from July 13-17. Thanks to a Title VI grant from the U.S. Department of Education, WILL covers most travel and lodging expenses for participants. Graduate university credit is available at very reasonable rates.

The application deadline for this opportunity is March 9. For more information and a link to the online application, please visit the WILL Web site at http://casls.uoregon.edu/will.php or email willuo@uoregon.edu. Please also share this information with other teachers who may be interested.
