The National Endowment for the Humanities is an independent grant-making agency of the Federal Government. Each year the NEH’s Division of Education Programs offers teachers opportunities to study humanities topics in a variety of Summer Seminars and Institutes.

2009 institutes and seminars include the following:

-Developing Cartographic Literacy with Historic Maps
- The Isle of Man: Crossroads of Medieval Cultures and Languages
-Reading Don Quixote
-Say Something Wonderful: Teaching the Pleasures of Poetry
-Dante’s Commedia
-Theatricality and Reality in Modern French Drama
-South Africa: History and Culture
-From Chang'an to Xi'an: Ancient Capital to Modern Metropolis
-The Art of Teaching Italian through Italian Art in Rome, Italy

The application deadline is March 2, 2009 (postmark).
