The Boston Wagner Society presents: Talk–"Wagner's Beguiling Tristan und Isolde and Its Misunderstood Aspects"
Saturday, November 15, 2008, 1:30 pm
Boston Public Library, Mezzanine Conference Room, Copley Square
Free and open to all

This lecture will address some of the seemingly strange or elusive aspects of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde. For example, how could a modern audience be expected to take seriously a love generated by a magic potion? Wagner’s brilliant solution to this quandary is as dependent upon his music as it is on his verbal text. The drama is enigmatic for many opera lovers precisely because the verbal text alone frequently does not convey the entire meaning; instead, the meaning is often completed or even altered by the music.
