NCELA is please to announce the publication of the inaugural edition of AccELLerate, a quarterly newsletter providing articles written by experts on all aspects of K-12 ELL education. The first issue has an exciting line-up of authors on diverse topics.

In this issue:
Margarita Espino Calderón and Robin Scarcella discuss academic language. Dr. Calderón discusses outcomes of the Ex-CELL and RIGOR models for teaching academic language, while Dr. Scarcella gives an overview of key terms and concepts.

Dr. Jamal Abedi looks at critical issues in classifying the language proficiency of ELLs.

Keira Ballantyne and Edynn Sato provide articles on ELLs in the early childhood years. Dr. Ballantyne considers some of the issues which arise when young children are learning two languages simultaneously, and Dr. Sato’s piece provides a framework for assessment for K-2 ELLs.

Dr. Rebecca Fox, Dr. Anastasia Kitsantas & George Flowers present preliminary results from a research study on adolescents with interrupted schooling.

Dr. Cheryl Chevalier presents highlights of TESOL’s Tapestry Web site.

The issue also highlights news from NCELA, questions from the askNCELA inbox, and new resources for the field.
